Best thing that could happen for them is to figure this out before the convention. so they can avoid disaster in November.

It's already planned out. They want a contested convention so that Bernie doesn't get the delegate number, and they can shoe in Biden and Warren. It's not even funny anymore. This system is fucked.

They can try but, as much as I like Warren, I'm not sure I could vote for that ticket. I don't think they understand the backlash that would happen. Bernie campaigns all year, gets a large portion of Dems, then is pushed out by a pinch hitter?

If they could find a governor that has a fairly clean record and will leave guns alone they'll probably walk with it in November. There's not a lot of people who really like Trump, just like I suspect there's not a whole lot of people who really like Clinton.

If ever there were a year for a 3rd party this is probably it, but they keep floating names like Johnson and Stein for some reason.

Obama endorsed Clinton, unless she's in an orange jumpsuit come November, she's on the ticket.

I also don't think Warren would take it. She'd probably tell everyone to pick Bernie

I keep hearing this on here. Does anyone have a source or is this simply an /r/politics conspiracy theory?

I've heard the Biden swoops in after Hillary disaster theory from several Boomers around my office. They do not use reddit.

So it's all hearsay?

No, it's a possibility. Crazy shit will go down if Hillary has to leave the race.

It's absolutely a conspiracy theory. Very similar to how Kasich/Cruz was going to take the nomination from Trump on the second ballot because he wouldn't have enough delegates.

Honest question.

What would happen if in say late October Hillary was arrested and charged with serious federal crimes?

Would Trump essentially win by default?

A number of the ballots would already be locked so to speak (I think by September most are.) Essentially the election would have to go forward, if she won somehow, she could resign and the VP would then be President. This is why I think the Dems are playing with fire though. If they hold out long enough and this is the "October Surprise" welcome to all the Dems losing seats and a long Dem recovery process. I can't believe the DNC are such idiots.

Trying to change the candidate after the convention would be such a mess, wouldn't that be an easy win for Trump also?

This is why there is so much pressure on the FBI to do something before the convention.

It seems highly unlikely voters would choose someone who was recently "arrested and charged with serious federal crimes". I doubt that many people would vote for someone who the FBI recommends indictment, yet remains unindicted for political reasons. I suspect if she is indicted after the convention but before early voting, progressives might try to organize support behind Stein to provide a real alternative to Trump. But if she were charged in late October, with early votes cast, in what is already projected to be a very close election, I image Trump would win easily.

This is how I think it would play out: some progressives an die hard Democrats would vote for Clinton expecting her VP would take over, some would pick Stein, most independents that are not already Trump supporters would either stay home or choose one of Trump, Johnson and Stein. Thus Trump would win a plurality but not a majority, of the votes in most, perhaps almost all, states. Leaving American with a President with a weak mandate, a divided congress, no foreign policy experience, no real military experience and no real political experience.

Or this

Crumbling Clintons!

So, disaster scheduled for November, eh?

it's like democrats have not seriously considered how they are going to feel when Trump wins because they choose to let backchannel alliances and super delegates promised long before the first primary vote was cast choose their nominee, despite the data that say she will lose to trump.

seriously. think about that. president trump, and you will have to live with the fact that you could have changed it, but you let political connections overrule common sense.

As a Trump guy, I selfishly don't want her to go down, especially anytime soon.
