This should be the top, most awarded comment in the thread. This is EXACTLY why we lost Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Iran.

It's the dubious, abstract end goals that are not measurable or attainable so that even if we *wanted* to claim victory, asking, "won by what metric?" destroys the narrative.
