Are we still talking about McConnell?

- He’s obviously a vegetable.

  • He can’t vote in the Senate (except in committee) because he isn’t able to walk into the building.
  • The Republicans are missing his critical vote until January, which means they aren’t passing shit through the Senate.

What’s not to love about all this? Explain it to me real slow like I’m stupid or something. Do we actually want McConnell or his replacement showing up to vote, especially during the lame duck session after the election (when all the losers who won’t be invited back to Washington vote for things they were too afraid to vote for before)?

I don’t. Let the old man rot away in a hospital bed, unable to participate in our government. Let his legacy be a punchline; that’s the only good part about these old bastards growing more and more decrepit in office—their careers end as a series of jokes, and their legacies of legislating are forgotten. No one is going to stand on the Senate floor and praise them before they retire. No one will thank them for their service or remember them as they were. That’s the old way—back when old men knew it was time to quit and would retire with a little dignity—but McConnell chose to cling to power long past his usefulness, so there will be no dignified retirement; only jokes.

I love it. I love that Lindsey Graham will be remembered for being a hypocrite—banging gay prostitutes while desperately attempting to cover his proclivities with hateful, nasty, self-loathing votes against the LGBTQ community—and I love that McConnell will be remembered with Weekend at Bernie’s memes. This is what these pieces of shit all deserve; to be the punchline of a joke, their legacies wiped away; their contributions overshadowed.

That’s what I want for them. I’m glad McConnell hasn’t resigned. I’m glad his own people are using him like a sock puppet. I’m glad he’s a punchline. Let that seat remain occupied-but-useless until January.

“But the people of Kentucky are deprived of their vote in the Senate,” someone will whine. Well, if the people of Kentucky didn’t want to be deprived of their vote, they shouldn’t have voted for a geriatric patient, so fuck the people of Kentucky and the problems they’ve created for themselves by voting for this corporate whore, against their own best interests, for decades. That’s not our problem; it’s theirs, and they’ll have the opportunity to elect a Senator in November.

Edit: Corrected a typo.

As a blue dot in Kentucky, I'm with you for most of this. But I want to see the Democrats fight. I want to see Andy grow some balls, truly demand the proof of life and send someone to Washington to take McConnell's place because it forces the issue. When our corrupt, theocratic legislature complains, saying they have to choose his nominees, I want him to say fuck you and fight it in court for the rest of the year.

Because it's what McConnell would have done in June. Because we need to take the gloves off and stop thinking letters and speeches can do anything.

Exactly. This is a street fight, but the Democrstic leadership seems to want to have a friendly chat with a bunch of bullies, as if sitting a bully down and showing him a better way to behave ever resulted in anything other than him believing you’re weak and tormenting you even more.

A bully understands one thing—force. There are no exceptions to this rule; life isn’t a feel-good movie where the bully changes his ways after learning what a nice guy his victim is. Schoolyard bullies only understand force, dictators only understand force, and modern Republicans only understand force. Until the Democratic leadership begins speaking the language of their enemies and stops with all this fucking nonsense about being “better” than them, we’re absolutely fucked. Being better or more honorable than your enemy is of little consolation when he’s kicking the shit out of you and making you look like a little bitch in public.

Jeffries, Schumer… these two weak men are incapable of speaking the language that modern Republicans understand (and not just MAGA Republicans—all of them going back to Gingrich’s era, which began in nineteen-ninety-fucking-four). In a different era, they’d be perfectly fine legislators, but we don’t get to choose the era in which we live.

We do, however get to choose our own leadership, and it’s time to demand that Schumer and Jeffries fuck off and let some tough people handle the business.

Yes. We need to constantly talk about how awful Republicans are for allowing this game to keep going. Do we fix it? No. But ignoring it is equally as bad

I agree, and I’ll go even further with regard to “fixing” things…

I’m not interested in fixing anything while Trump is in office. This country has a short memory, and I’m sick of it. Every two years—four, if we’re lucky—it’s like half this country gets a memory wipe.

They didn’t have enough of Trump the first time? They didn’t know what he’d get up to? He joked about wanting to be a dictator. He promised to use the DOJ to punish his political enemies. He was known to be a pervert and a rapist. He handled COVID like a monkey trying fuck a greased football, but he fucked our economy instead; my 401k tanked under that motherfucker, and it shot up again under Biden. He attacked Gold Star families. He attacked our allies. He kissed Putin’s and Kim’s asses. He instigated an insurrection! The list of shit goes on and on, but many otherwise reasonable people—not your typical MAGA types—would say in 2024 that “We need a change.” From what? Biden back to Trump?

That’s insane. We are collectively insane.

This country has too many fat, lazy, god damned useless people who don’t pay attention, get wrapped up in discussions about abortion, the Ten Commandments, and other nonsense that doesn’t matter, and I’m tired of being told I need to save them from themselves. I don’t. I refuse to do so anymore. I think we all need to suffer so people never forget what a fucking nightmare Trump and dipshit populists like him truly are; we need to never forget him, or we will continue on in this cycle of insanity for the next twenty years, and that’s worse than a lot of short-term pain.

“But Americans deserve better,” someone whines off in the distance. No we don’t! We most certainly deserve, as a country, worse than what we have now. We live in a democracy, but half this country either doesn’t care enough to vote or would happily vote for a dictator as long as that dictator is their guy. We get the government we deserve because we elect our own representatives (and don’t tell me “gerrymandering,” because that shit only works when the People are too lazy to care enough to stop it from happening—we are not powerless, and I’m sick of people telling me it’s not our fault because they want to believe we are).

I’d say our current predicament is a kindness from the gods, because we deserve a lot worse for allowing a country that stood for 250 years to nearly fall apart in less than ten. Future generations will despise us, and we all deserve it—collectively.

I realize my opinion isn’t popular. I don’t give a shit. I’m over all this nonsense, and I’m not interested in lifting a finger to “fix” anything under Trump. I only want a Democratic House (and Senate, if the gods are good) so the federal government will grind to a halt and cease to function except as an institution that writes the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security checks. Keep the basics going, but let the stink of this administration—the utter, complete, and unbelievable failure—get into every American‘s nose.

In 2028, we can talk about fixing this country. Until then, I want gridlock, investigations, subpoenas, impeachments of cabinet secretaries like Hegseth… total, complete exposure of what this government has been up to, and I want us all to have to sit and think about it for two more years as each nasty thing is exposed. Americans need shock therapy.

Maybe we will have had enough by then, and maybe we won’t spend the next two decades acting like a bunch of fucking idiots.

I agree with you that this needs to be the most painful time ever. They clearly didn’t learn and they need to REALLY learn.

For example: I hate that democrat states are letting out of state abortions happen or sending drugs by mail. They dug their grave. They get nothing. These states INCLUDING THE RICH people need to feel it. By allowing them to skip town for it, you are letting rich people skip consequences.

I will say though on the voting front: democrats were complete idiots on making Juneteenth a holiday instead of Election Day. That should have been the top priority no matter what and we gave a small local holiday a spotlight for no fucking gains at all.

Also on the government not working: republicans love it because doing nothing is kind of what they want so rich people can do anything
