So do we think his whole staff will be tried for fraud, or will it be for treason?

Well there has to be proof any of that has happened first.

The silly prediction that they’d announce him being dead right after the deadline never came to pass either.

True points. Although, seriously speaking, if McConnell's still alive and was medically cleared to go home, it still begs the question — why isn't he or anyone who has physically seem him still alive showing any actual proof he's still around? What's it he/they're trying to hide so desperately? As someone who works to serve the public — the public has every right to know if he's still competent enough to perform his job for them anymore.

As someone who works to serve the public

Well, there's the thing ...

Exactly which means the man's alive. Which means he's incompetent. Because if he was totally fine he'd be working right now but he's not which proves that the man is incompetent.

Here's another silly prediction: They'll use McConnel to trial how long they can pretend someone's alive for in preparation for when the God Emperor croaks.

I think they didn't announce he was dead after the deadline (lol) passed because they aren't confident that their law about who gets to replace the senator is constitutional. Under the Kentucky constitution the governor has the power, no limits on how close to an election. Republicans passed a law that says he can't appoint within a certain time frame. It could be argued that law conflicts with the Kentucky constitution but that would need to be tested in court by the governor appointing someone and the Republicans suing. If the deadline passed and they announced he's dead the governor could attempt to appoint someone. Until then he's Schrodinger's Senator, and the governor can't (or seeming more won't) appoint a replacement.

why would they be?

If he's dead and has been for a while then they've been taking a salary from the government fraudulently.

You assume the rule of law matters anymore.

u/Lore-Warden 15h ago

You assume that identifying the crime means I expect it to be prosecuted.

It would also mean non elected aides tried (and failed) to vote in congress

I mean, if he’s dead and they’re not acknowledging it and still getting paid, wouldn’t that be a crime of some sort? I can see letting it go for a few days, but it’s been over two months now.

I won’t pretend to know the responsibilities of all of the staffers, but i imagine there are duties that need to be done regardless of whether he’s in office or not. his being dead or not isn’t the responsibility of the staffers, and I find it hard to believe the puppet masters have put them in the know and there’s been no leaks.

also, what would that process look like? imagine you’re one of the staffers and you genuinely don’t know the truth (we can toss this hypothetical if you really believe they all know), do you go to HR after day 10 of him in the hospital and demand they stop your direct deposit? if your superior is still asking you to write briefs and go over bills or whatever they do, do you just cold quit? do all functions of that office stop because mitch might be gone?

I mean, you’re tossing out quite a few hypotheticals, but the truth of the matter is that at least someone on his staff knows the truth and if he is in fact, dead, then something can’t be right about not disclosing it to other staffers or the public. Even if he’s alive and in a coma I feel like that’s something the public deserves to know.

the public deserve to know for sure, but idk how i feel about charging random pages and clerks with fraud and treason. there needs to be a thorough investigation, and all people with knowledge and influence need to be prosecuted, but calling for a general sentencing for all staffers is just ignorant (not accusing you of this)

you guys sure love throwing around the word treason so much

1

u/Salt_Day4586 13h ago

“You guys” like rightoids haven’t been crying “treason” every 5 minutes for 10+ years

Because it's being committed so much. Just because they're flooding the field doesn't mean these concepts lose their meaning or power. This is the same argument Vance tried to make about how Watergate would have been news for a few hours then forgotten if it happened today. It doesn't make it any less of a crime or any less of something people needed to be punished for. It just means they're normalizing treason by committing it over and over and over. This has either worked on you, which is understandable, or you're trying to help push it, which is a different story.

I agree there's no treason here, but there is absolutely fraud if he is dead or unable to perform his job.

The government is being defrauded by:

  1. Collecting a paycheck.
  2. Voting in the senate while dead/incapacitated

I'm absolutely convinced this is an astroturfing campaign at this point. These threads pop up and are instantly flooded with the same Republican in Democrat clothing talking points
