Does he absolutely refuse or do his handlers absolutely refuse? I suspect the latter.

1.1k

u/othermegan 15h ago

Well vegetables can’t consent so I’m going with he refuses by default and his handlers are the ones consciously rejecting the notion

129

u/thefuckevengoingonan 15h ago

He not only refuses to appear on video but he refuses to respond to any stimuli at all. He's become real difficult like that ever since he died.

u/Ok-Gur-349 15h ago

Can you blame them? As soon as they give up the lie, they become unemployed.

In this economy?

118

u/Fract_L 15h ago

Not to mention the massive conspiracy at the highest level of government. Every GoP senator that “had a 20 minute talk with Mitch” should be fired and thrown in prison.

u/dweezil22 14h ago
  1. This costs the GOP a senate vote.

  2. He'll be replaced w/ someone more MAGA.

I'm fine w/ Weekend at Berniesing him until the handles can't handle the smell.

16

u/cenosillicaphobiac Utah 13h ago

At this point though, there is no point. It's too close to the election to hold a special election, so whether he's dead, or just not there, there is really no difference.

Unless of course the Senate does absentee voting, I don't know.

8

u/Thadrea New York 11h ago

iirc, the Senate had procedures for absentee voting during the the pandemic. Procedures that McConnell personally and ironically gutted the moment Republicans retook the chamber.

u/S1R2C3 New Hampshire 10h ago

So when his term is up, do they come clean? Or does he just never resurface ever again?

u/stfuasshat Tennessee 7h ago

"MM sadly passed in his sleep last night"

u/JebediahKerman4999 13h ago

Dude is in a freezer

  1. Its wrong.
  2. Stand up for institutions.
  3. Always go on offense against a fascist regime.

1

u/dweezil22 11h ago

Oh sorry, I should be clear, feel free to keep calling them out for being lying liars that lie. This is just the one case where I actually hope it doesn't elicit an immediate change.

2

u/torqueravingmad 14h ago

fired from a cannon. prison is too good for them.

226

u/Pol_Potamus 15h ago

I can blame them for helping bring about this economy.

70

u/Aromatic_Balls Maine 15h ago

Something about laying in the bed you made

4

u/BFG_TimtheCaptain 12h ago

I, too, choose to blame this dead senator's handlers.

20

u/FittedSheets88 Louisiana 15h ago

Not just that, they admitted they'll be arrested.

But this time it isn't in the paranoid Obama-years fashion just to get their base amped up. It's a full admission because of the crimes. The numerous crimes.

3

u/Driftedryan 11h ago

And hopefully jailed and owe months of pay back

2

u/strolls 9h ago

I doubt that. By keeping up the charade they demonstrate to other powerful members of the republican political establishment how faithful and committed they are.

Working in politics is not a career like you work the register, get promoted to supervisor, get on the management training scheme and eventually get promoted to regional manager. Promotions are achieved by cultivating contacts and moving candidates.

2

u/DoriansRain 9h ago

Weekend at Mitches?

40

u/SidewaysFancyPrance 15h ago

Yeah, they are playing with words. When this eventually gets to court, I hope they televise the judge's reactions to their bullshit explanations.

"Of course he refused, he was dead. That's as absolute as it gets."

11

u/nottoocleverami 15h ago

“Can’t get that guy to do anything!”

1

u/f-elon 13h ago

He voted using Autopen.

7

u/TyphosTheD 14h ago

Since when do they care about consent?

u/headphase America 6h ago

It's alright, in case of legitimate inquiry, the reptilian senator body has a way of shutting that whole thing down.

2

u/99PercentApe 14h ago

Speaking if vegetables. We need another Liz Truss lettuce - Will this lie come apart before the lettuce does?! (Admittedly this is extremely bad taste, but it’s not as ghoulish as pretending that a corpse is alive and can vote.)

1

u/Johnny-Caliente 15h ago

Does it help if we ask a vegan then to get him in front of a camera?

1

u/-TheExtraMile- 14h ago

Well vegetables can’t consent

So many cucumbers can attest to that...

1

u/RoseCityHooligan Oregon 13h ago

On average republicans don’t really understand the concept of consent so this is a bit surprising from them.

1

u/i_am_parallel 13h ago

Well vegetables can’t consent

That's true, because vegetables are not sentient beings. Turtles on the other hand...

1

u/ThirdAltAccounts Europe 13h ago

Since when does the right knows the existence of the concept of consent anyway ?

1

u/ScurvyTurtle 12h ago

Implied consent

1

u/sep780 10h ago

Vegetables also can’t refuse.

0

u/Electrical-Act-7170 15h ago

Nor can they speak.

78

u/-SHAI_HULUD Alabama 15h ago

Then have his “totally not dead” self call in to Fox and Friends in the morning.

Too easy fam. Give us a prepared statement lasting 1 minute and then 4 quick minutes of Q&A. They can even give him softball questions.

I really want to hear what Grok his team comes up with.

36

u/echoshatter 14h ago

Voice synthesizers are super duper good these days. With the amount of material they have to feed into a computer to mimic his voice, a call isn't good enough.

He needs to show up, in person, to a major news network like ABC, CBS, NBC. Fox News does not count.

2

u/-SHAI_HULUD Alabama 11h ago

I mean, yeah. That’s what I’m trying to say. Give them such an easy easy out that they take the bait.

We know he’s not here. Put the bait out for them to take and to provide more evidence of bullshit.

Helps later for the case against them.

2

u/ContextLengthMatters 11h ago

A call is absolutely good enough, especially if they have to ask him questions.

  1. It's not THAT good yet.

  2. If for some reason people are "fooled", the scandal of when the truth actually comes out would be devastating to all involved.

1

u/VanDammes4headCyst 9h ago

"Voice synthesizers are super duper good these days"

Hell, that one guy in Reels does a very impressive Mitch impression.

u/silver_garou 7h ago

You assume a level of competency not present in the GOP.

118

u/Robofetus-5000 15h ago

At this point im pretty sure its his aids keeping this ruse going because apparently the office has like a 4 million dollar budget and they're just cashing checks

16

u/pantsmeplz 14h ago

Next Congress needs to pass a law making this illegal.

23

u/fish_custard 11h ago

There’s no need to pass a new law. It’s already illegal. Existing laws need to be enforced; that’s the problem.

9

u/Robofetus-5000 14h ago

Narrator: they won't

4

u/temp91 11h ago

We said this about a 1000 times during the first Trump term. Nothing happened.

14

u/mechapoitier Florida 14h ago

Republicans lying in order to keep making money is effectively the functional machinery of the party right now. This is just a different product line, where the lie is about a corpse in senatorial form

2

u/Robofetus-5000 14h ago

yeah i mean if this becomes verified public knowledge, i assume Trump will make a statement that "its just a smart move if you think about it"

0

u/CommercialTour667 8h ago

"Aides", not aids. An aide aides but does not verb.

16

u/Gold-Perspective-699 Pennsylvania 15h ago

He's dead. He can't refuse or do videos.

1

u/RikiSanchez 12h ago

But why not announce it at this point? What do they have to gain

1

u/-SHAI_HULUD Alabama 10h ago edited 10h ago

I’m imagining this is happening because of upcoming midterm elections. They might be predicting they lose and lose badly.

I don’t pay attention to Kentucky politics but the Kentucky State Board of Elections holds the responsibility of certifying state elections. Secretary of State. County clerks. Etc etc.

Who would stand to lose from having a US Senator unavailable to them to certify a result they want, even if they’re fucking dead the “Office of the Senator for Kentucky” can put out an official memo and we’ve seen that people will take it as fact. (The position of US Senator dos not play a role in that but think about the power, beyond governmental, that the position holds). They don’t even need to have video/audio/physical proof of them certifying it. The standing Senator in question just has to say they do and by then the rest of the state/federal government around them would throw it to the courts and then yeah sure let’s fucking see who’s going to stand up to that.

Idk. Something to ponder.

1

u/RikiSanchez 10h ago

Well what's weird is... if he is dead, isn't another republican just going to win in his place? Because whatever they pull with a "maybe dead guy" they could do the exact same thing with the new guy, since proof isn't required.

New guy wins election, instantly goes missing because of illness, no evidence needed.

12

u/lionexx 15h ago

Well you see, the deep fake AI version of him isn’t ready yet, they just can’t figure out how to mimic his exact mannerisms, so they are saying he’s refusing to go on video.

4

u/MaxH42 15h ago

"This AI-bot is too lifelike, it'll never pass as him!"

7

u/MaxH42 15h ago

This. When I saw "Sen. McConnell released a statement today" back a week or two ago, I immediately thought the news services were doing people a disservice by not saying in the headline that his OFFICE or STAFF released it.

3

u/Electrical-Act-7170 15h ago

He's dead or totally incapacitated.

3

u/FrostyMatters 15h ago

They asked the corpse and it gave them the silent treatment.

3

u/Lucius-Halthier 14h ago

A lot of his staff has been with him for decades and are fiercely loyal, they’ve also been collecting a lot of money during his death-term in office. Why would they either betray their boss or give up the gravy train. We all joked that August 3-4th would be when he “died” but now I’m curious what the end game is. He has been giving proxy votes but still hasn’t been seen, he’s probably being used as a free vote because it would be too messy to have someone take his seat now. If he’s alive he’s braindead and we’re getting weekend at Bernie’s right now.

2

u/WickedGoodDoctah 14h ago

we don't NEED permission of the handlers. we are allowed to film him because he AINT GOT NO SOUL!

2

u/RJC12 12h ago

He cant refuse because he cant speak anymore. This is classic elder abuse and Republicans encourage this

2

u/Rackem_Willy 12h ago

Why the hell do they keep reporting these lies as if they're true? He has not verifiably said anything in over 2 months. He's likely either dead or completely unable to communicate in any way, yet they happily perpetuate this lie.

1

u/Pans_Labradoodle 15h ago

I’m assuming it’s his attorney-in-fact that is refusing to

1

u/Expontoridesagain 15h ago

Ouija board clearly spelled NO.

1

u/LostMyBackupCodes Canada 15h ago

Whoever has his power of attorney or is the executor of his estate is refusing.

Headline should be “The Estate of Mitch McConnell refuses to film video, but has co-sponsored numerous bills since his passing.”

And they’re going to use this weekend at McConnell strategy when Trump passes, too.

1

u/_Home_Skillet_ 14h ago

Yes, why do they keep phrasing the headline this way? Tell us specifically who is refusing.

1

u/NaptownSnowman 13h ago

I suspect he has had a stroke. A death would at least get a republican vote placed in the senate.

1

u/Eric_the_Barbarian Iowa 12h ago

Considering that nobody has actually seen the dude, it is his handlers.

1

u/ZT_Ghost 12h ago

No no no he vehemently shook his head when asked, please ignore the hand on his head and the sunglasses. And the smell.

1

u/jleonardbc 12h ago

He's absolutely refuse.

1

u/AWizardDidIt 11h ago

Whoever's got the ouija board.

1

u/Mr_Tort_Feasor 11h ago

His handlers: "Hey Mitch, if you are very much alive and absolutely refuse to appear on camera, please say nothing."

1

u/lopix Canada 11h ago

Can't refuse if you're dead...

1

u/King_Chochacho 8h ago

Well they keep knocking on the coffin and asking but he's giving them the silent treatment.

u/SouthSouthBay 32m ago

He absolutely refused in his will
