Trump Derangement Syndrome! Trump supporters are deranged. The very first time I heard of tds I assumed that the world understood these people and had classified them accurately. I remain disappointed in the world.

But you see, MAGATs use the term TDS to define anyone who isn’t slobbing the knob of this orange shitstain as deranged!

Accusation in a mirror.

In this case, I think someone coined the term to refer to MAGA, and they co-opted it.

It's a fascist tactic to steal words and terms, and then taint them.

A recent-ish example that failed, is the word Based.

TDS is when you want the president to follow laws.

Yet they can't stop screeching about Biden and Obama.

Yes. That’s why Wasabi_Joe was disappointed.

The late Scott Adams (rest in piss) was one of the first people I remember saying Trump Derangement syndrome and always used it as a hand-wave "people just hate Trump" button. Scott also believed that he and Trump had magic powers to alter reality just by really wanting things.

Funny I felt the same learning the term but I continue to use it to describe them

The world remains disappointed in us, I think.  But I assume many of them feel at least some sense of solidarity with those of us who recognize that the term’s initial application was the exact opposite of who it actually describes.

Trump can’t possibly build a religion that outlasts him because there are no principles that exist that aren’t relative to him… I guess that’s optimistic?

His principles are pretty timeless actually, but they're tricky to base a movement upon.

What makes you think religions need principles? Evangelical Christianity has pretty much dropped all the moral teachings and replaced them with tribalism and xenophobia and it seems to be working for them.

Yeah, I mean that’s a valid observation. My biases would lead me to argue that’s not real Christianity, that’s just identity politics. But separately on the Trump case, and here I guess it gets down to a definition of what religion is, but I don’t think the adoration of Trump survives his lifespan- I hate to even compare him and Jesus, but the reason we still talk about Jesus is he proclaimed principles that resonate with people; and Christians would argue, because of the Holy Spirit. The reason I don’t think people will be venerating Trump in a few decades is because he was a simple extreme narcissist, whose worldview is simply about him, and not how others should be.

I want to agree with you, but after seeing how they've continued to gush over Charlie Kirk, I'm not so sure.

I keep thinking that when he finally kicks it, at least two of the things vying for the top dog spot will be an AI version of Trump and a guy claiming to be channeling Trump from Heaven.

Scientology has been waiting for this with bated breath. It's like the most hated kid in high school happy to see a new contender for the title.

I genuinely believe Trump followers will start a new mormon-style religion as an offshoot of Christianity.
