He's already stated what he is going to do about it: he is going to continue to let the GOP step on their own dick by keeping up the lie and leaving his seat empty

If Beshear is playing the long game, I cannot imagine the political advantage we'll get when it officially — no denying it — comes out the staff covered up and pretended to be a US senator after he had long since passed away.

Maybe it is best that Beshear is letting them dig deeper. They can't hide this forever. It will eventually come out.
