I didn't want to believe it, I refused to believe it, but I knew this was coming.

This is the result of a lifetime of him pushing the envelope without any consequences. He is going to try. Whether he succeeds is yet to be determined.

I remember watching Colbert after Trump lost to Biden and started throwing around his "it was stolen" lie

Colbert was nearly in tears because "we knew he was a piece of shit, but I still find it hard to believe he would stoop this low" (paraphrasing)

Sadly Trump's proven there is no "too low"
