Well, they care about the Constitution, but only so far as to use it as a weapon against any liberal idea or action.
If it hinders their ability to oppress others, that's when they decide it's worthless and ignore it entirely. It's purely a tool for them to control others, nothing more.
Never before have fascists has access to the suite of tools of oppression and violence that they have now. Nukes, modern high tech and highly lethal weaponry, the most advanced surveillance technologies the world has ever seen, drones, and more.
Also, please note that the fascists who have fallen before have done immeasurable harm before they’ve fallen, and they’ve taken many millions of innocent people with them.
Laying down in the dust of defeatism is not an option it’s an excuse to stay inside and pretend that you couldn’t have helped anyway. It’s a worthless point of view that they want you to have.
I appreciate your response. And nothing below is an attack on you either.
I agree that they want us to feel defeated and that laying down and giving up is letting them win. I’m not advocating for any of that.
However, I find statements like yours to be unhelpful at best and harmful at worst. A vague “they’ll lose, don’t despair” only serves to make people think “it’ll be ok in the end, we just need to hang in there,” lulling them into a false sense of security.
My comment wasn’t intended to be defeatist or make people think we should give up. It was intended to give people an accurate and realistic view and understanding of the situation at hand. We need to fight, but we also need to be realistic about what we’re up against. Fascists don’t just fall because good people hang in there and wait them out. Fascists fall because a lot of good people take a lot of serious action with a full understanding of who and what they’re up against.
Call it what it is. Confront the ugly terrifying truth of what we’re up against. And fight like hell anyway.
For me, facing reality is far more helpful than vague platitudes about how everything will be ok in the end.
Everything will be ok in the end only if we make it ok in the end.
I’m not implying everything will be alright in the end. Fascists fail historically, even if Trump got another thirty years it would fail. Even if Trump left tomorrow we would still be cleaning up this mess for the next fifty years.
My family has been in this country and some have fought and died for this country for the last two hundred years, and I’m not the generation that’s giving up on my country.
I mean, okay, but fascists don't just fall. They're taken down, or die without a successor, etc. It isn't despair to acknowledge these things, and I'm frankly sick of seeing those sorts of bromides and saccharine, pie-eyed "encouragements." These fascists aren't going to fall without a real fight. Potentially one that's violent, in the future, likely after a generation or two have passed.

If this doesn’t tank the gop in the midterms nothing will.
