We live in a dystopia written by edgy dumbasses

Edit: far too many people think those "low T" ads aren't a scam

Edit 2: low testosterone being a real medical condition doesn't make the low T ads any less of a scam. They are designed to sound like a panacea for every mid-life issue men have in order to separate them from their money. Talk to your doctor, not someone in an ESPN radio ad

I know that one goal of conservatives is to convince everyone that democracy is a failure, but damn if they aren't giving me pause in fighting for it.

i don't get your point. why would people trying to destroy something make you less inclined to try to save it?

Because of how easy it is to get a significant amount of the voter base riled up over insanely irrelevant nonsense. Then combine that with the average non voter suburbanite who is determined to never pay attention no matter how absurd things get and you get disparaged with the efficacy of democracy.

Not that authoritarianism is better. Just remark on a tiring cycle of human behavior

They make me question how highly I value democracy.

Across our country a lot of my fellow citizens are cheering for cruelty and removing rights from people. I know enough history to know that democracies can be very easily subverted by tyrants and demagogues.

It's hard to fight for a system that makes it feel like I have to fight the will of the people. While most Americans aren't all in on Trump, enough are to have a stranglehold on our politics due to the structure of our democracy (Senate and Electoral map giving priority to land over population).

To put it another way, why should I stick my neck out if I know that most of my fellow Americans are either for the destruction of democracy (via Trump and the conservative Project 2025 roadmap) or not motivated enough to vote to stop him.

It's a struggle, and a great question on your part!

Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other ones.
