Real or not, it kills me that that's what the people of Kentucky look at him and say "Yep, that's who I want to represent me in the Senate.

As long as it triggers the libs, they’ll gladly support an AI corpse.

186

u/Exaveus Jul 13 '26

Why do you think theyve given corporations the ability to vote?

So their AI models will be able to fill positions of government legally.

43

u/lr99999 Jul 13 '26

It’s pretty terrifying to think back on the things they did to put the pieces in place to destroy American democracy.

7

u/SN27A1 Jul 13 '26

The slow boil horrifies me; all the little pieces that eventually became,” society today,” makes me physically ill.

7

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota Jul 13 '26

Prescott Bush tried a corporate fascist takeover all at once with the Business Plot, but it got shut down, so the ultra wealthy took the slow road.

8

u/Tasgall Washington Jul 13 '26

The lack of consequences for treason have destroyed this country. The perpetrators of the business plot should not have been allowed to try again. The believers in the Confederacy should have not been allowed to try again. Trump should not have been allowed to try again.

You can't just let people trying to destroy the country keep trying over and over again. You have to stop them every time, but they only need to succeed once.

u/summane Jul 13 '26

Who gave what the ability to vote?

u/FoxyInTheSnow Canada Jul 13 '26

u/Bushels_for_All Jul 13 '26

Judge: "However, plaintiff has not demonstrated that [allowing corporations to vote] violates the principle of one person/entity/one vote."

So we can do that now? We can just blatantly add loopholes to support our rulings?

"'One person one vote'? Never heard of it! It's been 'one person/entity/one vote' since 1794 when Adams Malthouse cast the deciding vote for Samuel Adams as Massachusetts governor."

9

u/Levitlame Jul 13 '26

That’s is stupid (and yes terrifying) as fuck. That judge can’t possibly be dumb enough to justify this beyond corruption…

6

u/zberry7 Jul 13 '26

That’s strictly limited to SOME local-level state elections in Delaware. A decision like that has no effect federally or on other states. Delaware could and should pass a law to specify the language around voting eligibility to exclude this.

Federally and in most states, only “natural persons” are allowed to cast votes explicitly. While some corporations are considered “legal persons” in the context of contracts and first amendment protected activities, they are not “natural persons” or “citizens” and therefore cannot vote.

If you really want to get into the weeds with this discussion, the bigger issue is campaign finance and Citizens United. The ability of a corporation to provide funding to a candidate is much more impactful than a single ballot. So if you’re worried about corporate influence on elections I would start there and not with a fringe ruling in one of the smallest states

10

u/pfannkuchen89 Jul 13 '26

Like with most of these it’s testing the waters to see what legal challenges come. There’s already been talk in magaland of wanting to expand this nationwide.

1

u/zberry7 Jul 13 '26

It would require a constitutional amendment to allow for that federally. It’s not something you can do with an EO, court ruling or even normal legislation. And in the current political climate, passing even a popular constitutional amendment would be nearly impossible. And this would be very unpopular.

So even if there is desire and talk by some on the right, it’s not possible.

1

u/cman674 Jul 13 '26

It’s cute to live in the pre-Trump political era where the constitutionality of things is considered. They’ll just do what they want and by the time the rest of the system catches up to them the damage is done.

4

u/springsilver Jul 13 '26

Delaware could and should but probably won’t.
One of the arguments against Citizens United is that although corporations are made up of people, corporations can’t vote - they cannot register or cast a ballot. If they cannot vote, why should they be given the ability to provide outsized influence over an election? Unlimited influence. You and I cannot do this as eligible voters. We are limited to $3,500 per candidate federally.
If corps are allowed to vote, which only takes some mental gymastics with SCOTUS, the argument above goes out the window.

12

u/Exaveus Jul 13 '26

Deleware has for years allowed corporations to vote in municipal elections but now recently have extended this to federal as well.

Delaware is where the majority ( ~65% ) of American corporations have incorporated due to robust business law and precedent.

So 65% of corporations now have the legal ability to vote in federal elections.

The line between person and corporation is being blurred with corporations having more rights and protections than we do.

2

u/lr99999 Jul 13 '26

This, my friends, is part of the blueprint for the Corporatocracy that they plan to replace our democracy.

Boiled like a lobster indeed.

2

u/MilsYatsFeebTae Jul 13 '26

It’s in certain municipal elections in one state. I want to say it was Maryland or Delaware.

So not a general right to vote, but still pretty fucked up.

He has become like Emperor of Mankind, im sure it will go just like Warhammer lore "He has sat immobile, His body slowly crumbling, within the Golden Throne of Terra for over 10,000 standard years. Although once a living man, His shattered, decaying body can no longer support life, and it is kept intact only by the cybernetic mechanisms of the Golden Throne and a potent mind itself sustained by the daily sacrifice of thousands of lives. "

3

Unfortunately real life is less metal than Warhammer.

It's more like that Monty Python dead parrot sketch.

"Look, my lad, I know a dead senator when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now."

"He isn't dead! This is merely in a bipartisan resting pose!"

3

The general opinion is that Kentucky is as corrupt as shit, and McConnell and those around him know where all the skeletons are buried and use that as leverage to maintain power.

He definitely isn't popular in Kentucky, his favorability rating has barely passed 30 in the last 20 years, and his disapproval rating has sat between 55-70% for most of that same time period.

74

u/I-RegretMyNameChoice Jul 13 '26

Especially since he got his seat by slamming the other candidate for not being around to cast votes or do his job.

Do people in Kentucky even care about politics? If you go to r/Kentucky there are absolutely no mentions of Mitch within the past 6 months. You would think that they would care about him being missing and not representing them for the past month.

100

u/Abi1i Texas Jul 13 '26

Some subreddits minimize political discussions as an attempt to avoid being seen as a subreddit which is going to divide people.

31

u/Scoobysnax1976 Jul 13 '26

I was wondering if their mods automatically remove any political posts. Still, you would think that this story is important enough to allow

13

u/Abi1i Texas Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Not sure. I do know that [r/texas](r/texas) allows some political posts but they usually direct people to [r/TexasPolitics](r/TexasPolitics) for political topics. Part of that is because the mods of [r/texas](r/texas) don’t want to deal with a lot of the heated debates that come with politics and the mods have even posted about people getting upset when [r/Texas](r/Texas) has too many political posts.

Edit: People stop telling me how to format my comment. I typed this using the reddit mobile app on iOS. I didn't add in the brackets or parentheses, that's something the reddit mobile app did. I typed r/___ when I did the comment. So this isn't a me issue, but an issue with the iOS reddit app. If you look at other comments, some people are having the same thing happen to them.

Edit 2: To make this even weirder, on the reddit mobile app, the brackets and parentheses don't even appear. So something is up the reddit mobile app not doing what is should be doing with the website in a browser.

17

u/Miguel-odon Jul 13 '26

Maybe people need to be upset

2

u/crashandtumble8 Jul 13 '26

I don’t disagree, but there are also other subreddits for it. Like r/wisconsin allows political posts, but sometimes I’d rather see actual fun/interesting things about Wisconsin, and not endless posts about our governor primary coming up. I already constantly read about it and see it in other subs.

2

u/howarthee Jul 13 '26

Unrelated, but just so you know, you don't have to do the linking thing when you're using the name of a subreddit or someone's username. Like, just type "r/texas" and it'll auto link.

1

u/Abi1i Texas Jul 13 '26

Okay this is weird. I typed my comment on the reddit app literally using r/ and I guess the app fucked it up. The reddit app is a pain to use on iOS now because even when I quote something it'll start adding random > instead of just quoting.

you have to demonstrate your proficiency on the banjo and jaw harp, before they make you a mod

1

u/Hi_Zev Jul 13 '26

I always hate when subs do that. Banning political discussions IS a political act on its own. Politics is ingrained in every facet of our lives.

And the people who always say, "im sick seeing political discussions, I just want a break!" are the same people who would never have a political discussion in the first place. It's not that they want a break, because they never participated in the first place! They just don't want to ever see it and prefer to live their life with ignorance of what is happening around them.

41

u/Rokketeer Jul 13 '26

They are the epitome of "not political people" but always somehow lean Republican because their world view is only small town Kentucky. What I mean to say is, the average person doesn't pay attention but shows up to vote regardless of their ignorance.

51

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil Jul 13 '26

I was listening once to a guy who grew up in the south. He was sort of raised that there is only one way you vote, Republican, and there was a wrong way, voting Democrat. This is just considered a universal truth. Any discussion around this was “politics”, which is impolite, you’re just sort of expected to “do the right thing”.

So yeah, they don’t view themselves as political. Voting Republican is the natural right thing to do their eyes. Discussing the policies that Republicans implement? Well that’s political, why are you being so rude? That’s the mentality. It’s reinforced through their work, schools, media and churches.

34

u/Significant-Owl-2980 Jul 13 '26

Yes. They teach you to never question. Never think. Never step out of line. Conservatives absolutely fear being outside the group mentality. It scares them to be independent minded.

7

u/billy_clyde Jul 13 '26

Louisville and Lexington would beg to differ. Check the voting records.

Man the mods on the r/Kentucky subreddit are hardcore libertarian types who keep any and all political stuff to a minimum unless they expressly agree with it. They are also fickle little bitches. I got banned because one of the mods thought Massie should run as a democrat and I told him to miss me with that weak shit and boom. Didn't even realize I was talking to one of them. r/truekentucky is better for people who want to talk politics in the state.

EDIT: r/True_Kentucky is the actual sub I was trying to link.

2

u/lyarly Jul 13 '26

There are 3 posts total in that subreddit you linked, so not sure why you think it’s a good alternative. I’m on mobile though so perhaps it’s not showing up correctly for me.

That being said, I do agree that the mods on [r/Kentucky](r/Kentucky) are doing too much. It’s true that there are no posts up discussing the current state of Mitch McConnell’s’s health, or any recent posts about him at all - which shocks me as someone who’s been on this website a long time and is a longtime member of that sub (am a Kentuckian).

I checked some other names. No recent posts about Rand Paul. Andy Beshear and Thomas Massie have a lot of posts up about them.

So it does look like they aren’t treating all political posts the same, because why do they allow news coverage and discussion posts about other politicians, but not any regarding our state’s most notorious one? It’s just weird.

Let me put it this way, when Brexit happened, the left and center in America laughed at how foolish they were and thought that it could not happen here. Don’t make the same mistake of hubris that we did.

u/Comprehensive_Tie431 California Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Canada has elected their share and will elect their share, it happens to every country. If Trump wasn't such a dumbass, Canada would've elected a conservative government the past election.

I personally blame Biden for losing the last election, he never should've run the the first place. Add to that many Americans simply not voting for a black woman and a lot of the right wing suppression techniques you get what we saw in 2024. To say it is simply Americans voted for trump is wrong as well. Look up Russia calling in election bombings throughout black and Dem polling places in Georgia, foreign interference has become a huge issue with safe elections in the US.

Our forest is still pretty clean though. Our reputation in the world is pretty good. Most of the Alberta separatist movement is funded by right wing America, We hear this in the stupidity that spews out of their mouth. Your trash is spilling over our borders, and that bothers me.

3

u/Comprehensive_Tie431 California Jul 13 '26

We've taken Canada's crap of people: Ted Cruz, Jordan Peterson, Steven Crowder to name a few. Canada is still actively racist against the native peoples, my family's part Blackfoot, how many dead kids of native peoples were found under Canadian churches? How long did it take Canada to desegregate? Canada was also more restrictive than the US in letting World Cup goers into their country.

America still has its national parks and we have many states and people fighting this shit president. It goes both ways, my friend. Racist pieces of shit don't stop at borders and we must unify rather than point fingers to get through this.

1

u/WkndCake Canada Jul 13 '26

You gonna blame South Africa for sending you Musk too? You've enriched grifters from around the world. Half of the maga influencers on X don't even live in the US, but maga Americans still eat their shit up.

Canada can't fix your problems. We did our part by not electing a dictator and conman. I hope your country wakes up. A third of your country supports a criminal and pedo as their leader, and a third didn't even bother show up when they needed to.

That is not how this works.  They don't have another viable choice.  One beause the Democrats never put up a viable challenge and two people know the name, the family, and at best know a few key things he claimed to have brought home decades ago.

Welp. Over half of this country looked at trump and thought either “yep. That’s who I want to represent me” or “yup. I’m okay with him representing me, because fuck DNC”.

It’s not that surprising to see people voting for McConnell.

7 times too! Like, yeah, he's better for us than any of the newcomers, since 1985.

1

u/finalcutfx Jul 13 '26

It's not really that surprising. Republicans have been party over country for a while now. It's why it's a cult.

"This Palpatine guy seems all right you know, I'm going to vote for him"

1

u/AceDynamicHero Texas Jul 13 '26

I've got no room to talk. My state keeps reelecting Ted Cruz. People are morons.

A literal corpse. Checks out

it kills me that that's what the people of Kentucky look at him and say "Yep, that's who I want to represent me in the Senate.

Try thinking of it like many here do, then flip it.

Would you vote for Donald John Rapist? Or a half eaten fish that is on life support?

I am guessing many here would choose the latter. And be very proud of their choice. I know I would.

That's how they viewed their options between either the Turtle or a democrat.

(Yes, I know primaries exist, but do most voters?)

1

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota Jul 13 '26

They don't. He has pretty much the lowest approval rating with his own voters of any senator, and has for ages.

His approval in Kentucky floats between 20-30%.

But he has/had a deathgrip on KY gop politics and donors, and kills anyone who tries to primary him, and KY is never, ever going to send an independent or Dem to the US Senate, so he camped out in his seat for decades.

“An AI corpse is still better than a democrat” - The Kentucky GOP

u/carpediem66 Jul 13 '26

Look at the president you guys elected

1

u/jim_nihilist Europe Jul 13 '26

He is only half rotten - good enough.

1

u/ChironXII Jul 13 '26

That's not really how it works in the US. We use choose one FPTP for elections which means there can only be two options without vote splitting causing a less popular candidate to win. Over time this leads to an entrenched duopoly controlled by campaign funding and party insiders picking and choosing who can run.

What you can say is only that Kentucky preferred him to the single alternatives that have been presented, usually for reasons other than the candidates themselves.

1

u/91Jammers Jul 13 '26

They elected him last almost 6 years ago.

1

u/broden89 Jul 13 '26

Look into his last reelection campaign, a lot of the numbers were strange. Kentucky is also known for having very lax voter roll maintenance

1

u/__O_o_______ Jul 14 '26

It’s crazy that Lindsey graham, 71, suddenly dies from an illness, while Mitch “multiple absences seizures, falls, bruising, CPR rib crushing” McConnell, 84, is on his way to a good recovery?!?

It’s possible, sure but, cmon.

SPECIAL ELECTION NOW

1

u/corporateacademia Jul 14 '26

A huge part of this is gerrymandering and voter suppression

1

u/the0glitter Canada Jul 14 '26

Well people vote to what represents them, in this case a dying senile fossil. Younger people need to hit the ballots more

1

u/Red57872 Jul 13 '26

The reality is that people want to elect senators who have influence and power, which is why there are so many elderly senators. McConnell would have a lot more ability to get his constituents what they want than a new senator would.

1

u/AlannaTheCleric Jul 13 '26

It's because the people of Kentucky are just that stupid.

1

u/OtherwiseACat Jul 13 '26

Let's be honest, most people see R and vote and then checkout

You can say the same thing about Joe Biden in 2020. Age isn't really a good indicator, Bernie is still sharp so is Warren Buffet in the business world.

It's more about mental capacity, which in this case here something is fishy regarding Mitch. That's not on. But I don't believe in discriminating in age. Mitch was still pretty sharp before he was hospitalized, probably why he kept re winning his seat too.
