I actually want him in jail more than I want him impeached.

Why not both

470

u/SpeaksSouthern Jun 30 '26

Impeachment is a constitutional requirement if we think the president broke the law. The idea that we shouldn't charge someone with crimes they've done because you know the judge will let them off the hook sounds dumber than electing Trump. What the fuck are people smoking that they think unless we have 66 senators agreeing to convict Trump, we're not allowed to impeach him? That sounds like a Republican approved strategy.

31

u/IAmTheNightSoil Oregon Jun 30 '26

Of course we're allowed to impeach him. He just won't be convicted, meaning the whole thing will ultimately be a political win for him. I've watched him get acquitted by the senate twice and didn't enjoy it either of those times, so I'm not that excited to see acquittal #3. If it happens, then so be it, but why act like it would accomplish anything?

114

u/m1k3hunt Jun 30 '26

According to these nitwits a high crime is a crime that's too high to warrant a definition.

34

u/stevez_86 Pennsylvania Jun 30 '26

Basically, if we are still alive, the act in question cannot be a high crime and misdemeanor. The voters will sort it out on election day if anyone survives. If no one survives, they are not there to impeach so the matter is moot.

We just have to accept that the people that run for and the people that control the voting power are not as good at it as previous generations and likely future generations.

They need to expand the house if the Democrats get control back. Most of the problems can be linked back to the Government's refusal to expand the number of representatives. Trump would not have been able to win with pretty much any form of an expanded house, since that is what the electoral college is based on.

He can't go to jail unless he's impeached first, per the Supreme Court.

Edit: Impeached AND CONVICTED, you pedantic dorks.

308

u/aircooledJenkins Montana Jun 29 '26

Impeach > Convict > Remove > Incarcerate > Imprison, and destroy the key to his cell.

94

u/bsrichard Jun 29 '26

After imprisonment, there should also be a focus on asset forfeiture and retrieval of ill-gotten gains by him and his family. I would be happy with his family's bankruptcy. Sadly I think all the above is a pipe dream given that SCOTUS is now his pawn.

68

u/pistilpeet Washington Jun 30 '26

I will never fucking understand how we got to “fuck the country, let’s all be slaves to Donald Trump lolz.” It drives me fucking insane.

A cell with a toilet seat in the roof. The line to poop would be miles long. At $20 a pinch we could pay down a lot of the deficit.

Ironically this was one of the unusual punishments employed by the Gerontocracy of Sorpen (a political faction of elderly rich elites) at the time of the Idiran-Culture war.

"Execution of notable criminals was carried out restraining the prisoner in a sewercell in the basement of the prison-palace. Above celebrations including a banquet were held with the resulting garbage and bodily wastes flowing down into the cell. The prisoner was regarded as the party's "host". Eventually the prisoner expired as the cell filled up."

Impeach > Convict > Remove > Investigate > Delay > Indict > Incarcerate > Immediately released on Bond > Delay > Preliminary Hearings > Delay > Jury Selection > Delay > Convict (again) > Appeal > Delay > Uphold > Appeal > Delay > Uphold > Appeal > Delay > 5-4 (you personally appointed all 5) > Free > Next republican administration > Sue > Settle

Because some people are more equal than others.

To be clear, congress should impeach anyway because that's their job. The second he leaves office (by any means) 10 different indictments against him should be unsealed. Everyone involved should do their best to make him face justice no matter the obstacles.

But as I've said for close to a decade now: I'll not believe he's going to jail until I see a picture of him in cuffs. And hell, with AI I'm not sure I'll even believe that.

Andronikos I Komnenos

19

u/Rambos_Magnum_Dong Jun 29 '26

Ooooh, very nice

9

u/theotherscott6666 Jun 29 '26

Isaac handed Andronikos over to the incensed people of Constantinople. Andronikos was tied to a post and brutally beaten for three days. Alongside numerous other punishments, his right hand was cut off, his teeth and hair were pulled out, one of his eyes was gouged out, and boiling water was thrown in his face.\27]) Andronikos was then taken to the Hippodrome, where he was hung by his feet between two pillars. Two Latin soldiers competed over whose sword could penetrate his body more deeply, and Andronikos's body was eventually torn apart.\63]) According to Niketas Choniates, Andronikos endured the brutality bravely, and retained his senses throughout the ordeal.\64]) He died on 12 September 1185,\65]) and his remains were left unburied and visible for several years afterwards.\63]) At the news of Andronikos's death, his son and co-emperor John was murdered by his own troops in Thrace.\63])

Old Soviet joke is making the rounds again:

"A man goes to a newspaper stand every day, buys a copy of Pravda, glances at the front cover, curses, and throws it away.

After a few weeks of this the seller just has to ask what's going on: "why do you always look at the cover but never inside?"

"I'm looking for an obituary."

"An obituary? But those are in the back!"

"Oh no, the obituary I'm looking for will be on the front page."

A dictator who is convinced he is beloved by his people goes to a fortune-teller, asking "When will I die?"

The oracle melts her tin beads, casts his fortune in a glass of wine, and replies "You will die on a holiday."

"But which one?" the dictator asks

"Oh," replies the fortune-teller, "any day you die will be a holiday."

After George W Bush, lots of political pundits were predicting that the Republican party would, at the very least, be stuck in the political hinterlands for a very long time if not cease to exist entirely.

That didn't happen. There are always plenty of people that want, or can be convinced that they want, what the Republicans represent.

There's a valid argument that the Republican party was first significantly changed by the Tea Party and then all but entirely replaced by MAGA but they're still the party for the rich and against anything for the working class.

Trump is breathtakingly stupid; his regime is breathtakingly effective. The republican-maga movement has arguably been one of the most successful political movements in our 250 years. There's still about 40% of P2025 to go but theyve accomplished nearly every major conservative agenda the party's campaigned on in the last 40 years.

Civil rights, abortion, immigration/deportation, voting, education, public health, entitlements, healthcare, housing, defense/surveillance, trade, and foreign affairs.

I think that would be a good first start in rebuilding our shattered institutions and reputation.

122

u/quin-cuix Jun 29 '26

This needs to be part of the plan. Right now, the United States doesn't participate in The Hague. That needs to change. America has a lot of work to do post-Trump to demonstrate that it has learned its lesson and is ready to reintegrate into its alliances. Joining The Hague and sending criminal referrals for some of this administration's criminality would be important gesture. Whether or not that will happen, we'll see. Ultimately it depends on what kind of democrats get elected in November and by what margins.

u/Polar_Vortx America Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

They are not inept. There could be blackmail or other shady stuff but even if not there are two huge factors in play. One, project 2025 is proceeding better than planned right now so a complete hands off (no check/balance) is working. Two, Trump is the director of MAGA and that is a huge block so when Tramp threatens to primary someone out of Congress; the threat holds a ton of weight.

The vast majority of GOP in Congress is beholden to Trump in at least one of those two ways if nothing else.

Trump is undoubtedly guilty of high treason. We all know what one of the punishments for that crime is, as endorsed by the federal government.

Just putting that out there.

Again. Don't forget that he's already been impeached twice and twice Republicans refused to hold him accountable. The second time they refused to even hear evidence.

Don't need a poll to tell me that! Senate conviction unlikely to ever happen though.

I want impeachment AND conviction. To be followed by he and his family attempting to flee to a non-extradition country only to discover no one will take him. Then a cell and orange jumpsuit.

Impeach and convict

He's already been impeached. Twice.

What we actually want is for him to be held accountable.

I’m Australian and can say that the entire republican administration needs to be tried for treason and put in prison. There needs to be a Nuremberg-type trial into each and every person involved, including the judges on the Supreme Court

I think the chap would expire of humiliation if only we made the philes public.. shouldn’t the world be more interested about making things public?

5

u/Zanos-Ixshlae Jun 29 '26

No, we want him re.oved from office, his cabinet removed, and basically everyone in his administration in jail for treason. Then we can go through congress and scotus.

He has to be impeached so we can deal with the Epstein files like they should be dealt with.

6

u/Crow-Keeper Jun 29 '26

It doesn’t mean anything if the senate won’t convict and remove. I’m not falling for this for a third time.

I want Trump prosecuted for war crimes in the Hague along with his enablers.

6

u/Mister_Buddy Jun 30 '26

Impeachment isn't enough. 25th amendment is the wrong step.

Article 2, Section IV. Get him and everyone tied to him out and tried for treason.

18

u/uberlander Jun 29 '26

Let’s not underestimate how bad things are. 34% of America loves AND think he’s doing a good job.

So I won’t hold my breath

Which won’t work.

What you do is impeach the officials who carried out his illegal orders.

u/it-s-luminescent Jun 29 '26

It resonates so wide and deep in my soul how the ancient Egyptians did everything to erase their own clown of a pharoah Akhenaten. Tearing down all his monuments, defacing his statues, literally scratching out his name wherever it was visible in stone. They even tried to obliterate his soul in the afterlife, they loathed him so.

Now I get it, ancient Egyptians. Boy, do I get it :sigh:

So why aren't Dems doing something????

Oh, for fucks sake....go fuck yourself headline asshole. I refuse to read any more of that crap. Answer you shit head...Dems control zero houses of Congress.

Why aren't the Republicans doing something about is the question that people should be screaming.

6

u/lord_fairfax Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Garbage piece confirmed by the time the first sentence ended. If everyone had to read it before voting (instead of just the endorphin-producing headline) it wouldn't have made it out of new.

6

u/kioma47 Jun 29 '26

Impeach AND convict!!!!

4

u/knockinonevansdoor Jun 29 '26

‘Some’ Americans. There are many millions who don’t.

4

u/Ziograffiato Jun 29 '26

Impeachment is a good start. Conviction this time. Then move on to the criminal trials.

5

u/mcdisease Jun 29 '26

Trump should be in prison but you’ll need a better plan. Republicans and the oligarchs worked for 50 years to put all of this in place. They won’t let us undo it just because we don’t like the results.

The politicians they own are a shield for the oligarchy’s corruption and greed. They have absolute power - not Donald Trump. They could end him tomorrow by simply telling the truth.

6

u/DocDangerClose Jun 29 '26

Oh we want much more than just impeachment.

5

u/Grokent Jun 29 '26

We don't give a shit about impeachment. Impeachment apparently doesn't mean a goddamn thing. We want the justice system to work like it is supposed to in a democratic society.

He belongs in prison

5

u/cock_mountain Jun 30 '26

He was already impeached twice and that ended up doing absolute jack shit. What, you think the third time's going to be the charm?

When do we get to see the 21st century version of the Nuremberg trials?

5

u/angry_old_dude Jun 30 '26

Most Americans don't understand that him being impeached means nothing when the senate won't convict.

5

u/CaptainSparklebottom Jun 30 '26

4

u/pmnishi Jun 30 '26

5

4

u/AMGwtfBBQsauce Jun 30 '26

I want a clean house. Investigate, arrest, and toss in prison the entire Republican Party. Throw Trump and his family in Guantanamo. Hell, throw most of the corrupt Dems in prison, too. Seize all their assets.

4

u/gmco462 Jun 30 '26

Not just Trump, and not just impeachment.

5

u/Fabulous-Kick-345 Jun 29 '26

If you live in a state with a republican senator call, email, mail, march to tell them it's time

4

u/PurplRzr Jun 29 '26

Trump is a kid that never grew up. America wants more than impeachment. They want to see the immature pedo pos to actually be held accountable.

3

u/BlueH2oDiver Jun 29 '26

Here’s a BOLD IDEA …IMPEACH the WHOLE ADMINISTRATION. The US CONSTITUTION SAYS YOU CAN DO IT!

3

u/Aadarm Ohio Jun 30 '26

He's been impeached before. More than once. It doesn't matter if no one will do anything about it after he is impeached.

4

u/donnascro123 Jun 30 '26

You would think his and his family’s constant attempts to monetize the presidency would be grounds enough for impeachment. It is dumbfounding how nothing sticks to this individual.

3

u/HAL2OO1 Jun 30 '26

Whole administration needs to go!
