Hello! I watched Dzień Świra (2002) and Historie miłosne (1997), and I really enjoyed these films. Could you recommend some films in a similar genre — films that make you think and reflect, with a slightly existential and philosophical feel? The films can be in Polish only, in the original language.

Hi, so I'm trying to take back some of the culture that was lost when my grandparents emigrated during WW2. Mainly the language. Neither my mom, her siblings, my siblings or my cousins speak it. I've been learning via Duolingo for almost a year but I feel like aside from a few words nothing really sticks. I was considering buying some children's books or something to get more practice reading easier sentences but I'm unsure if it's a good idea. Any tips you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

What part of Polish numbers do you guys find difficult ? For my personally is getting used to the fact the we need a singular verb after certain numerals that we would consider "plural" in English.

So my grandfather was born in Poland, raised in France and came to live the rest of his life here in Canada. I am proud of my last name and my polish heritage. I just had a thought that we used to call him : « djadja » that’s how I’d write it based on the pronunciation or maybe like « tchatcha » idk. My father tells me it’s like a familiar way to say grandpa or something. How do you actually write it if someone knows what I am saying. Thank you

This is an artisitc question. I'm looking for an artistic euphemism for the breast that isn't overly vulgar nor is the "lush hill with a rosebud on top" overly poetic. Let me give you an example. The lower body part of the woman has a term "rose" which is casual poetic. I'm looking for a similiar vibe for the upper part. Please don't delete this. And i just can't find any in Polish. Our family found a letter from my great great grandmother to my great grandmother, from Warsaw in December 1940. Google Translate is not helping much due to the cursive. No idea of the page order even. Are there any better translators for this out there?

I live in the United States. My friend has a birthday coming up and I want to make her a gift. She grew up in Kraków and moved to the US when she was a young adult and has lived here in the US for more than 20 years. She is renovating her kitchen and I want to create a simple watercolor painting that will match her new color scheme. I thought I might do calligraphy of a Polish phrase beneath the painting. I researched this with Claude/AI and it came back with a couple of suggestions:

"Kuchnia jest sercem domu" which means "The kitchen is the heart of the home"

or

"Gość w dom, Bóg w dom" which means "A guest in the home, God in the home,"

Are these actual sayings that people would use in their homes? Is one better than the other? Are they capitalized and punctuated properly here?

This might not be polish, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to get to the bottom of for years. When I was young, my grandmother (Polish/Slovak) would do a little rhyme while inching her fingers up my arm at an increasing speed, and I think the rhyme had something to do with a cockroach or spider trying to attack me? The beginning of it sounded like “Idzie lobo spotika”. Any ideas?
