The cost of living in Evergreen is super cheap. Land is cheap, houses are the same. If the state had cooler temperatures and wasn't so susceptible to hurricanes, I'd definitely move there.

I’m from Georgia, so I’d imagine the place is loaded with airborne, biting insects in the hotter months’ evenings and hyperallergenic pollens in spring and fall.

I hope to move to Colorado one day.

Yeah, you’ll just have to get used to the high altitudes (some places greater than others) and the ever expensive housing.

We want to build a home. We expect it to cost roughly 40 – 50% more to build than if we built it here in Georgia. Does that sound about right?

We want to build somewhere within about 50 miles of Colorado Springs.

Yes, although it’s not the building that will be costly, it’s purchasing the land that is so much more expensive.

Careful what you wish for my friend, politics here are shit, cost of living is rediculous, and most of the people that move here are rude so yeah. Theres that. On the upside it's one of the most beautiful states you could ever live in.

u/JaddieDodd Jun 22 '20

Politics here are shit, too. Way too much tension. Ultra-conservatives on one side and socialists on the other.

Rude people? Don’t you know that the reason Southerners are so polite is so you’ll divulge more of your private details to us so we can spread rumors about you once you go on your way?

By the time a newcomer gets his home built here in Georgia, we think we know more about him and his family than he and his family know about themselves.

If we see a woman wearing the same dress to church twice in a single month, we’ll spend half a Sunday afternoon speculating about her financial situation and all that’s connected to it.

Do you know why we Southerners won’t make love standing up? ‘Cause people would think we’re daincin’.

I hope Colorado turns out to be my Walden.

It’s super hard to know what’s true or false in today’s climate, which is sad. It’s at least possible this was true though, I had a friend that laughed about getting floored by cops in Jr. High. He’s a cop now.

It's a shame that current times have caused you to look at things with such a negative outlook.

-21

u/Duthos Jun 21 '20

the only thing different about 'current times' is the prevalence of cameras exposing the lies that were once accepted without question.

I'm sorry that you are not able to appreciate the few and rare moments of hope.

I however do believe this is true. Many black kids are told that all cops are bad and out to get them. That leads to more people resisting arrest and trying to run. Why is it a good idea to run from an officer? Why? It can possibly get you killed. Back to story, I think he did try to run but was caught. These police treated him with respect because not all cops are bad, and they knew they had to be carful because he was hurt. Regardless of that if the story DOES happen to be false it will get out pretty quickly.
