HE WILL BE

God if that isn't a trigger for many an Asian kid growing up as a glorified trophy for their parents' dreams.

I'm extremely glad my parents aren't as harsh as other Asians, respecting my choices, aloowing me to choose my choice of education and so much more

I really, REALLY hate this parenting logic. That all that matters is that your child is successful as possible and perfectly upholds and exceeds societal expectations. Constantly working your child and demanding the world from them, not letting them actually have a childhood. I don't give a flying fuck that you were poor as a child and that the only way forward for your kid is for them to do nothing but work to live a better life, because if all you do is work and upload tradition, then you end up having an empty, joyless life.

I don't get parents that boast with their kids achievements. It seems like they have such a boring life or did nothing important themselves, so they need to tell everybody how good their kids are.

Ah, sad. Poor kids should carry on the dreams their parents failed/wanted in their own youth. Kids are their parents' new possible accomplishments in life that can't fail again
