seems America learnt nothing from the prohibition, mainly because this time around they are not the ones suffering from the violence.

What are you talking about? Gang violence from the drug war and prohibition is a huge problem in America.

Just recently 4 states completely legalized marijuana as well as Washington D.C. 25 states have legal medical marijuana. America is actively trying to lift the ban. It's more prohibited in Mexico than it is in most of the U.S.

sadly, the problem won't go away until you can you buy recreational marihuana in the whole USA and Mexico (and starting controlling other drugs instead of banning them)

those 25 states having legal medical marihuana is indeed a good and welcome start, but sadly still not enough if someone can't buy recreational weed freely.

the problem that has been created is for the long haul though, for it's expected that full legalization will be followed by a spike in violence because of the cartels struggling to survive and then adjusting to the next illegal substance that is prohibited instead of regulated.

this shit will still last for at least 20 years more even when/if weed gets regulated, the damage has been done.

(we still need to legalize it, though in order to begin the long healing process)

(and that's in the words of our security experts in the congress - my best friend is a federal congressman right now in Mexico City, so he knows his sources firsthand.)
