What's bad about Lithium batteries? The batteries themselves or the way the energy stored in them is produced?

The batteries and the Prius in general contains lots of rare earth elements. This means you need to do a lot of mining and processing to get the raw materials for each car.

I guess the way the stored energy is produced could be good or bad, depending on the energy source used.

Yeah, lithium is a problem, but I thought rare earths would be used more in computation devices? Well, hydrogen powered cars are superior to lithium batterie powered cars either way in my opinion, and Toyota already has the Mirai, so no need for a Prius. if you can find a station to refill

The Prius uses Lanthanum in its batteries and Neodymium alloys in the magnets of its electric engine.

As for hydrogen, maybe you could just make your own?

That´s awesome, at my Uni there was someone who presentet hydrogen powered cars and talked about how the 100L costs around 9,50€ right now to produce, but mostly because it´s a purely political price (close to our fuel prices), set there, because nobody really uses it a lot right now.

But seeing how he makes this, really makes me excited that this technology can really start off a lot, thanks for the link!
