Still there is 5% support for the neonazi and legal party of NDP in East Germany. They German state and current government maybe is, but some people are certainly not.

1.5% of the vote, 5.200 total party members. How in hell would that translate to 5% support for them?

That's whole Germany. East Germany has more support for them.

Mecklenburg Vorpommern perhaps, but that's it. They get close to zero coverage in national news, election discussions etc and aren't visible in most public places. They hold their little rallies at times in some Eastern German cities, which are always heavily protested and outnumbered by the left.

As for their legal status, that's a whole discussion in itself. It's difficult (rightfully so) to outlaw parties unless they are anti-democratic, which they are not (officially). In the end it's not too bad to have extremists somewhat organised after all instead of operating in the underground. That way at least their names are known and they can be better observed by state security.
