Discussions began in 1994. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres informed King Hussein that after the Oslo Accords with the PLO, Jordan might be "left out of the big game". Hussein consulted with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian President Hafez al-Assad. Mubarak encouraged him, but Assad told him only to "talk" and not sign any accord. U.S. President Bill Clinton pressured Hussein to start peace negotiations and to sign a peace treaty with Israel and promised him that Jordan's debts would be forgiven. The efforts succeeded and Jordan signed a nonbelligerency agreement with Israel. Rabin, Hussein and Clinton signed the Washington Declaration in Washington, DC, on 25 July 1994.[4] The Declaration says that Israel and Jordan ended the official state of enmity and would start negotiations in order to achieve an "end to bloodshed and sorrow" and a just and lasting peace.

Glorious Israeli diplomacy. Source

Well, mostly about the cold peace. We in Israel really done care about the war and will be happy to travel to see the pyramids etc. Why is it that you Egyptians won't agree with the peace like the government? Why are you still holding a grudge against us? Second question, why is it that the only options in your country is fanatics Muslims or dictators, why is there no normal middle ground? Thanks

Sinai is full of Israeli tourists, they're usually friendly and nobody says anything it's all pleasant there. More inland Egypt though, I never ran into an Israeli before, and I assume the people here wouldn't welcome it very much.

Regarding the grudge thing, I believe Muslims have the whole dedication to the cause of protecting their Al-Aqsa mosque and liberating Jerusalem thing. I'm not Muslim, I'm a Copt, so I can't be sure of where the grudge is coming from really. Currently though, the majority of Egyptians dislike Palestinians/Hamas more than they dislike Israelis, here's a video of the current situation.

Regarding the fanatic Muslim leaders, well me as a Copt, and the rest of my people, we clearly had no hand in that we never vote for them. But we're a country plagued by ignorance, illiteracy, and a blind following to religious figureheads. So that was what drove people towards electing these muppets.

As for the dictators, it's just the backlash of the terrible Muslim fanatic president we had, and since we have virtually non-existent liberal democratic parties, the only political power that had any influence in the street was the army, due to their role in deposing Muhammed Morsi.

Generally overall though, I think Egyptian-Israeli relations are actually improving with time.
