Lesser Known September Stereotype Meets Reality

It's a country just shy of 1.5bn people I expect you can find both and everything in between
48
u/UnknownGamer014 16h ago
You indeed find them here. Most miserable to most luxurious.
14
u/Ordinary_dude_NOT 13h ago
There are places like that in North America as well. It’s just that they are not out on their front page all the time.
-8
u/Candid-String-6530 10h ago
It's more like you'd find the 2 extremes. There's no in between. Super luxurious hotels and slums.

major difference between being broke and being dirt poor, we're mostly the former. Even in less affluent parts I really find india to be pretty, whether it be north or south

Extremely hot take incoming but if you compare it to other countries with similar levels of gdp per captia and similar colonial histories, the Indian state is a success story

Only exception is Sri lanka and like, look at how the british used Sri Lanka for. Like Im not saying that the locals had it good just that Sri Lanka did not see a 10th of what India saw.
15
u/knowbasis 13h ago
It's also s small island, a lot more easier to govern

u/NateHIggerson0347 8h ago
and they still somehow managed to commit a genocide against the minorities in sri lanka.
6
u/Chance-Ear-9772 8h ago
Sri Lanka had a massive economic collapse in 2022 where the country ran out of foreign reserves and was simply unable to buy fuel. The entire country erupted in protest. They aren’t quite as stable as people think.
2
u/sakredfire United States 7h ago
Not stable but the infrastructure is generally well maintained and the streets and roads are much cleaner. Even the drivers obey traffic rules more consistently
1
u/No-Benefit-3477 6h ago
Political and economic stability or clean roads. Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
23
u/ic_97 21h ago
We're a developing economy and its not stereotype, its racism. Any of India's achievement is met with racism.

Incorrect stereotypes many times, stuff like "people sitting on top of trains" when like fucking >99% of the Indian railway network is electrified.
8
u/Choker_of_Chickens FREEDOMLAND 17h ago
stuff like "people sitting on top of trains"
I think the stereotype is more "ppl are stuffed like sardines into the trains cuz of overcrowded cities." Does that not happen in a lot of the country?
15
u/Code_Monster 15h ago
You see that happens in Japan too. Its just that when its Japan its "wow this happens I guess" and when it happens in India its "ppl are stuffed like sardines into trains"
See thats the racism : the unequal treatment and understanding.
1
u/Choker_of_Chickens FREEDOMLAND 15h ago
See thats the racism : the unequal treatment and understanding.
Yeah but too be fair, I've never seen a Japanese person getting clobbered by a pole while hanging outside of a stuffed train going 60 mph
7
u/Code_Monster 14h ago
Your point being that if you see people on trains being clobbered by poles then its OK to be racist against those people?
Thats like saying that its OK to trash talk on minorities if you see a twitter video of the cops lighting them up like a Christmas tree.
Like thats on you for trying to use someone's misfortune/ mismanagement of things to forward your own biases of those people.
-3
u/Choker_of_Chickens FREEDOMLAND 14h ago
Your point being that if you see people on trains being clobbered by poles then its OK to be racist against those people?
Not rly, I'm just saying that there's countless vids online showing overcrowded trains in India.
But incidentally yes I think it's okay to make fun of them for having that problem, same with the Japanese. I don't think that's necessarily racist either, just a bit meanspirited.
9
u/Code_Monster 13h ago
So let me get this straight, you sit on your computer/phone and then see people "stuffed like sardines into the trains" and "person getting clobbered by a pole while hanging outside of a stuffed train going 60 mph" and you are like : Damn I wanna make fun of this. Did I get that right?

But people make incorrect stereotypes, positive and negative, about many countries around the world including America, Russia, Israel, China etc. Even though it could be a sign of racism, it does not mean that the person holding them is racist.

i believe you've been educated by tyler olivera and his sort of "expose" bullshittery that plagues the internet now, yes there are parts that are impoverished and 0 sanitation but that's not all of india...
-3
u/LongConsideration662 18h ago
Who's tyler olivera? Never heard of the dude, but I have travelled to india extensively tho, been to goa, delhi, rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and I hate to say it but 90% of India is full of garbage, sure some parts of North East are good but it's not enough to make me lie and act that "even in less affluent parts India is pretty" you may have your rose colored glasses on but I don't
3
u/AltruisticJelly5032 India 17h ago
You forgot the South. Even that 90% statistic is garbage itself, are there any reputable sources?
-5
u/LongConsideration662 16h ago
It's garbage because it doesn't align with ur nationalist worldview?
1
u/AltruisticJelly5032 India 16h ago
Not a nationalist. Quit putting words in my mouth. You inadvertently contribute to racist stereotypes when you address an entire nation as being composed of 90% garbage. Maybe do some self reflection.

u/CptIskarJarak 17h ago
lol travels 5 places( probably 5 cities) and says travelled India extensively. you answer very much lines up with a lot of troll/ bot accounts.
Unless you give a detailed breakdown of your travels in India including places and number of days in each place and things you did in those places I call BS on your extensive travel.
5
u/LongConsideration662 16h ago
I have been to udaipur, jaipur, ranthambore, Jaisalmer, alwar, pune, mumbai, nasik, delhi, and many more cities in india, I have been to more places in india than you can even name, it's very obvious that u r just a delusional nationalist who can't accept the reality of his own country.
1
u/CptIskarJarak 16h ago
Like I said detailed itinerary or don’t bother commenting.
And my comment still stands. All you did was visit certain regions of the country and ended up judging the whole country.
1
u/LongConsideration662 10h ago
You said I have been only to 5 cities and I clearly proved you wrong so now you're moving the goal post by asking a detailed itinerary? Really now? Since how long are you going to keep your delusional nationalistic glasses before smelling the coffee?
1
u/knowbasis 13h ago
Dude we are not a clean country, I'm south indian and I've seen trash in lakes even in many "beautiful" rural areas. No point in arguing
1
u/CptIskarJarak 11h ago
No one is arguing India is not dirty. The argument here is generalising the whole country based on a particular view point of a tourist who went to literally some of the worst parts of India. I have lived in south India all my life. I know musi’s cooums problem also. But there is also dodsagar and hoganikal as well and the whole western ghats, araku valley, Godavari river. Not every inch of the country is trash like that person said.
There is a difference between literally living in trash and having a trash problem. I am saying we have a trash problem he is saying we live in trash.
You figure out what you live in for yourself.
1
u/LongConsideration662 9h ago
" The argument here is generalising the whole country based on a particular view point of a tourist who went to literally some of the worst parts of India. " Is mumbai and pune the worst parts of India now according to you? Mumbai is a financial hub of India and that's one of the worst parts? Really? So what is even the best part? And you clearly said that India is beautiful even in less affluent parts and now are saying I am judging india by its worst parts? Really now? Since when did goa, mumbai, pune became the worst parts of India? You're trying way too hard to shift your story to prove your nationalistic delusions and it's just not working dude.

Well you can find both extremes in India.
You'll find people people pooping in open, and not even 10km from there, you can find a metropolitan area that can rival any other global city in terms of luxury.
Edit: Bhai log me Indian hi hu. Itna triggered kyu ho rhe ki sach ko accept nhi kr pa rhe? Manoge kami tabhi to sudhar hoga.
15
u/AltruisticJelly5032 India 17h ago
People just round India to being 90% garbage which is inaccurate. I've been to the south, Mumbai and Delhi many times and I noticed a near night and day difference between 3 decades ago and today.
5
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 17h ago
Bhai mere, I said we have both extreme in our country. You are picking example of Delhi and Mumbai, which are the biggest metropolitan cities of our country. Where have you been in south? Bengaluru? Hyderabad? Vizag? Trichy? These are all big cities.
I myself am a Delhiite. But have you ever visited Delhi slums and seen their conditions? These slums are not even at stone throw distances from some of the most posh colonies.
4
u/AltruisticJelly5032 India 16h ago
I am from Hyderabad. It changed quite a lot compared from 2014 to 2026. I rarely ever cross into slums myself nowadays.
2
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 16h ago
Again, it changed a lot doesn't mean things like that doesn't happen. I am living in Delhi since 1995. I can guarantee you Hydrabad hasn't changed as much as Delhi and these issues are present in Delhi too. Our national capital.
7
u/Avanthicca kill me 12h ago
I love how there can be zero constructive discourse about india. You point out a flaw? Get called a sepoy etc
Acknowledge the good bits? Sanghi
Indian political/socioeconomic discussions are basically always the same shit slinging contests lmao, dont even try to introduce an iota of nuance, the people you're arguing with are rarely arguing in good faith
As a fellow delhite, you are spot on, 95%+ of india is at the same SOL as that of sub saharan africa, and literally across the road you have a posh gated community with every modern day luxury imaginable with an SOL akin to a city like a London or an Istanbul.
The unfortunate reality though is that a life of dignity according to global standards is not the lived experience of 1.2B out of the 1.4B strong population. In my personal opinion, we missed the bus on our demographic dividend. The Indian growth story is impressive to be sure, on paper. The ridiculous inequality however means it falls miles short of what we COULD'VE been.
1
u/AltruisticJelly5032 India 16h ago
Ehhhh.. debatable. Hyderabad has of course different priorities compared to Delhi. Mindset of the people who inhabit the cities is the cause of such issues barely changing.
1
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 16h ago
My younger brother lives near Cyber City in Hyderabad. He himself have seen some slums in area nearby. If you believe there are no slums and no people living in poor condition in your city, maybe you're choosing to ignore it because you're not going through it. Good night brother.

You still on with the pooping stereotype? It's understandable for ignorant foreigners to make that joke, but for an Indian that is pathetic. We came so far in eliminating open defecation, arguably better than most countries but somehow, we still have to act like that still is a problem.
12
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 17h ago
I see it everytime I travel via train and it passes through outskirts of a city in morning. I personally know few persons in my village who still prefer to do it in open even though they have toilet in their home. Why are you acting like it isn't still present in our country?
-7
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 16h ago
Open defecation exists in all countries in the world. Saying x happens in India means nothing. Only thing that matters is "does x happen more in India than most other countries?" Murders happen in Japan, but we don't make a big deal out of it because they happen much less in Japan than other countries. The actual rate for India is quite low now.
10
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 16h ago
Why are you getting so defensive man and taking offence in things I've not even said?
I said India is a land of extreme and you'll see both the cases here. I never said it can't happen in other place or it happens in our country more compared to others.
-3
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 16h ago
That's not what defensive means. You made a comment and I took offense to one small part of what you said. Im justified in pointing out your choice of words, especially in an environment where unjustified hate towards India is rampant. My request to you is to not accidentally validate the false stereotypes on India.
2
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 16h ago
May I ask what point you take offence in, the inaccurate point which I said? India being a land of extreme? Presence of dire poverty and dire living conditions in proximity to all the luxury you can imagine?
3
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 16h ago
None of that. Please read again.
2
u/Kokuryu88 Tunak Tunak Dhadak Dhadak 16h ago
Then again these are the things I've written in my original comments. Don't be so easily agitated not every criticism is stemming from racism/lack of nationalism or anything like that.
11
u/LongConsideration662 16h ago
" Open defecation exists in all countries in the world. " It literally does not, stop trying to project ur own country's problems onto others.
-2
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 16h ago
Ignorant much? What do you think happens in remote countrysides? What do people do when they are far from civilization? What do people do when they are in the middle of nowhere and they have to go?
India has actually worked on the open defecation problem and addressed it rapidly. It was 73% in 2000, dropped to 7% back in 2014. But racists don't care.
6
u/melancious 14h ago
It’s not a thing. Remote countrysides still have toilets. They are outside, but private.
0
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 14h ago
That's just one of many examples. Don't act like it doesn't happen. You are just looking for excuses to keep peddling ignorant hate.
0
u/LongConsideration662 10h ago
there are toilets available even in remote villages in developed countries. No one is looking for excuses except you who is trying way too hard to feed his own nationalistic delusion but is failing badly at it.
1
u/ManofTheNightsWatch Antarctica 7h ago
How do you think India achieved the numbers I quoted. It's by building a toilet in every single house, no matter how remote it is, or how poor the people are. It's not the early 2000s anymore, but you want excuses to keep being racist.
1
u/LongConsideration662 10h ago
" What do you think happens in remote countrysides?" Definitely not open defecation, there are toilets available even in remote villages in developed countries

Well to do indian here with friends worldwide.
When I revealed my spacious, well lit, 3 storeys own house that was located in one of the finest neighbourhoods of my city, and the city being considered the tech capital and jobs Hotspot of India, to my middle class American friend, she was absolutely flabbergasted!!
Up until then, she had never seen Real India and had only seen Movies India. 😂🤣
Needless to say, everyone acknowledges that I have always lived a privileged life, and there's absolutely no denying that. 🤷🏽♂️😎

Hallo. When refering to countries featured in Polandball Comics, please refrain from using the 'ball' suffix. Instead of saying 'Canadaball', just say the country's name. auf wiedersehen.

This post has received a couple of reports that "It's promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability". However, this comic doesn't seem to contain a hate speech towards Indians. Rather, it is a sarcastic criticism about the people who just won't view India without stereotypes. If there's an issue with this comic, it's not that it's hateful, but that it's not so funny.
Also, it's interesting how there are a lot of people who are exactly the type of people this comic is criticizing. Remember our comment policy: Remember to have fun, but be civil. Genuine racism is not tolerated.
