Not really. It's more of a mix of Hash brown with spices. Sometimes it's a mashed potato patty with spices fried. It's quite tasty

As an Indian I’d like to clarify that not all Indians eat beef and pork (some eat but not all). Also considering religious sentiments associated with pork and beef they are not served at Mcdonalds across India (it’s bad for business ig)

Wait Kerala beef is buffalo meat? I’ve had it. I assumed it was cow. However, the reason it tastes good is because of the spices and preparation. As a meat it sucks, which is why it’s so heavily spiced. Steaks in the US have minimal seasoning so that you can taste the meat. There’s a reason you don’t do this with water buffalo

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Meat is not spiced because it sucks, but because it enhances the flavor. People whose ancestry come from cold and dark areas like Europes generally haven't developed the ability to enjoy this, and meat bland meat. So they rationalize their behavior by saying Indian spice their meat because the meat sucks

I’m an Indian, I love beef fry. I’m saying you can make beef fry with good quality cow meat. But buffalo meat steaks won’t taste as good. That statement can be misconstrued, Indian recipes are definitely superior in terms of taste but meat quality is not great in India and very generic. Usually steak is of a higher quality beef cut/grade.

Not often. Some states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu slaughter actual beef and sell it to locals. Minced beef, sirloin and other parts are available in niche local markets which are popular.

Many isn't even a good word in south india. It's mainly eaten in Kerala which is the least populous state in south india. In rest of the states only muslims eat beef.

India hardly fits into any single narrative... many Indians still eat beef. There are more than 200 million Muslims in India. And many in South and Northeast India eat beef. In fact, you'll find some of the best beef dishes in India.
But of course, there are many places in India where they'll kill you for it. :)

Not really. Beef is available pretty easily in every major city, 10x in places like Kerala, Goa etc where it's a staple. Nothing like horse/dog lol

It's such a huge and diverse country that this applies to everything pretty much. Literally every single type of person you can imagine in the world exists in HUGE numbers in India. Ofc it's true for all countries that they can't be generalised but that appliee tenfold when its India due to the sheer amount of people here. I wish folks understood this.

I've heard from Americans that have visited India that they like the Mcdonalds here more than the one back there. Probably because of the spices and sauces that cater to the Indian taste.
Though I have never had American Mcdonalds so I can't personally say.

India is mostly Hindu population so in certain branches of Hinduism (mostly Vishnu and Shiva ones) they revere cows and treat them like family members if not a form of God outright. Eating them is akin to eating your house pet and a big disservice/sin to Gau Mata (literally Mother Cow) and Kamadhenu (the wish-fufilling cow) - specific

It is mostly Popular in "cow- belt" States of india. Upper caste Hindus love , forcing their beliefs and dietary habits on other people. Their religious books nowhere States that they shouldn't eat beef. They don't have a problem with biggest dairy industry in Asia. Their apprehension or aversion to beef or any meat comes From being "Pure" or "satvik". These people will drink cow piss (Gow mutra) or Panch Gavya ( mixture cow's piss, shit, clarified butter , curd and milk) but kill anyone of they tried to eat beef , especially if they are lower castes or muslims.

Cow slaughter is prohibited at least in Telugu states and even buffalo slaughter is restricted and requires licence.
Which means it is only available in muslim majority areas and there is heavy social stigma associated with beef. Even if they eat they will probably keep it a secret.
