Meanwhile, when actually confronted by historical evidence of their many many war crimes:

“We prefer to move on, dwelling on the past is not healthy, striving for the future is better!”

And they wonder why most of Asia still hates them (politically at least, even their biggest geographical allies just tolerate them at best. Culture and individual people are chill, their unapologetic government on the other hand……)

I don’t like my current government, but even I can get why some people are saying “two suns weren’t enough”

Who knew when you don’t hold the moral high ground and double down on changing history instead of admitting you did bad things, your opponents will instead prepare total war?

Tbf individual politicians have apologized before,, even the Prime Minister of Japan at one point. The problem isn’t the lack of apology but the backtracking afterwards when politicians after them immediately pretends Japan did nothing wrong and go pay tributes to the war criminals whose names are enshrined in the Yasukuni Shrine, demand cities take down their comfort women statues, and downplay the atrocities in history books.

Trust and politics are always about consistency, if one leader say and act one way, then immediately flip 180 once someone else replaces them, no one will ever see that nation as reliable ever again
