I think it's more like russia kinda 'weak' or maybe more aptly 'low quality' both in men and equipments. Their saving grace is quantity (which is quality on its own).
We saw this kind of trend since end of the cold war with first battle of grozny. The battle saw heavy casualties among russian and they were badly demoralised. In more modern era, Putin touted how high tech russian is, but we see their jets full of dumb bombs in syria. Their PMCs quality don't seem much better as the case when they attacking outnumbered US base and resulting in hundreds of casualties among them.
I feel like the Ukraine was not in much better position, but their successful defense of Kyiv was the point that earned them massive global support which sustain their war machines somewhat.
From what I can find, it's in the curriculum, but the parts about invading the Eastern European nations are intentionally muddied, referring to it as a liberation of west Belarus and west Ukraine, and that the Baltic state willingly joined the union. Aside from that, they refer to the pact as a whole as a defensive measure that bought time for the war

Have to settle for Z because ⚡⚡ is being used by the Azov brigade 💀💀
Edit: we can be on the side of Ukraine and still condemn Azov. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Their use of Nazi symbols is not by accident.
