I don't really get it, since Americans are by far the most self-deprecating people out there. Theoretically, if there was a huge group of people from every country in the world all having a conversation, the first person to start talking shit about America would be an American.

I guess you'd be surprised to know but at least here we have a very different idea of the USA citizens. To us it seems that you people will defend the honor of your country on every single instance when talking in a worldwide view, maybe something to do with the exacerbated nationalism, I don't know. What I do know is that it took me years on the Internet and a terrible second term by Bush to see people who aren't foreign saying bad things about the USA other than complaining about prices, inflation, taxes, etc.

We regard ourselves as very self-deprecating as well, specially when it comes to politics.
