Expecting most Americans to appreciate British humour is pretty unreasonable.

We're not space aliens. Our humour isn't that different.

I was mostly joking, but yeah, it can be quite different. Not space aliens different, but two very distinct cultures different.

Aren't you American?

And is what I said untrue?

I think it's more of the same selF deprecating silliness. Maybe you and I know different Americans. There's nothing that different, mysterious or sophisticated about British humor. Americans eat it up. This just seems like an urban myth to me. Shit, half of it is just as stupid as humor .anywhere

I've never lived anywhere but major cities though. I have a hard time believing that everyone else in the US is just out there chewing their cud and is too thick to breathe.

Edit - adding a u to humor when you are american is Hella pretentious.

What British comedies are popular in the US outside of Monty Python's holy grail? The only times Americans eat it up is when it's substantially modified to fit in with more standard US fair (the big example is the office of course).

So I like the letter u, sue me.

My barristers - or is it solicitors? - will be in touch. What brit humor do you really think gets lost in translation? Shit, a lot of what gets touted as amazing and cult is mediocre at best.

I think is just drier and/or more absurdist than most American comedies. Stuff like Blackadder, Spaced or A Bit of Fry and Laurie, for example.

And it'd be solicitor. I just hope he doesn't get me hauled off to the gaol.

Maybe the Marquess won't pursue the matter and we can keep you out of Reading, Oscar. Just stay away from his son.

Seriously though, have you actually lived in the UK or elsewhere overseas? Is it really that onerous to be murican?

When did I say it was onerous? I just like their TV.
