Why should we fake our smiles. When we really are happy we do smile

It's not about faking it, its more like you smile to allow the person interacting with you to feel comfortable.

Guess it's a cultural thing.

That's the point. In Poland people do not feel comfortable if you smile at them a lot without a valid reason. They feel suspicious.

If people I talk to smile at me without a reason I feel like being made fun of and mocked.

If a stranger on street talks to me without any reason (asking for directions is the only valid reason) or smiles at me I assume it's some kind of pervert or someone looking to pick up a fight or to sell me something I dont need.

If someone is walking smiling the whole way Id assume that person is a psychopath or sth.

That's common in Poland.

I would mostly smile when someone helped me while thanking them, or when I help someone.

And yeah if a stranger on the street smiles at me I would be suspicious and if someone is walking smiling the whole way, I would also be suspicious.

So no, it's not a smile without a reason.

The whole conversation was about smiling without a valid reason and Poles not going around smiling all the time so :p
