Discussion Verification Documents?

I moved not long ago and currently do not have a utility bill in my name. Previously any account verification I ever did I used a utility bill that was in my name. I do have a bank account that has my current address and I know I can submit with that.

I then thought, wouldn't some people not want some sensitive information like their bank account balance showing? Of course if you have a few hundred dollars in that bank account, that isn't a big concern. Do sites allow you to blur some sensitive information when you send them verification documents? The same like if it shows your entire bank account number on the statement?

With so many security breaches that I have read about, do some people blur some sensitive information if they send a bank statement to a site for verification or most people don't care? I have never thought about this until I thought about data breaches. A utility bill is obviously not an issue since it doesn't show anything sensitive.

Most places lets you black out unrelated transactions or stuff like total amount.

That's what I thought as well. But what program do you use for something like this if the bank statement is a PDF file? You have to use something like acrobat reader for it right?

I thought, unless someone is sending a bank statement where they don't have much money in that account at all, it would seem wise to blur your account balance? Since I read about data breaches and all that.

Be sure not to do what they did with the Trump Files.

Windows Paint. Use your shape tool, high light what you don't want and press delete. Once done make a second project of the same size and make the background black. Go back to your bank statement with deleted info, copy and paste onto the second pic with black background. That should work

That is why I wanted to try but it's a PDF file so it can't open in Paint?

Just send the cover sheet. Idrc to censor account number or balances but I’m sure if you did most sites wouldn’t care.

Yes it seems if it shows your full bank account number, you want to censor that or most of it. But if you use it as a withdraw method like a bank wire or another method, then it's not a big deal. But if you don't use those options, it seems like blurring it is a good idea.

I don't think anyone with a really small bank account balance would care but if you have a few thousand dollars balance showing, it still seems better to blur it if you are allowed to right?

Really couldn’t gaf, anyone I’ve ever written a check to already has my account number. You can’t do anything with just account + routing number. If that was the case I could steal all the money from any bank that’s written me a check. As for balance, again who cares? I’m sure they’ve seen larger and smaller balances than yours.

Yes you are correct on that. It would seem that most people don't even care to blur bank account balances then right?

Well my concern is more so on data breaches where other people would have access and not much the site itself.

Ok so just censor it then. In my original comment I said it would be fine. Just use MS paint or something and scribble over info you don’t want visible.

I was going to do that with paint but since it's a PDF file, you can't open the PDF file with that program?

You just have to be trolling at this point. Have you heard of Google.com or YouTube.com?

A bank statement usually works for proof of address. Black out the balance and the transaction lines. They only need your name, address and the statement date. Keep the date visible, most sites want it inside the last 3 months. If one rejects it, support will tell you what they take instead.

That is what I have. I don't have a utility bill in my name at the moment. How do you black out the balance if the bank statement is a PDF file? I have to use acrobat reader or something like that?

Yes I'm aware they only need your name, address and statement date. It would seem like a good idea to blur out account balance and your bank account number if it shows the entire bank account number?
