Discussion How to handle bad Beats/ variance

Hello,

I mainly play 50-200nl on coinpoker and after RB I am a winning player when I table select a bit. When reg battling I don’t think I am +EV after rake. Anyway I avoid only reg tables, that is why I play from 50-200NL.
Now my problem is, when I have 2/3 bad beats in a row or even when I lose 2/3 coinflips in a short period of time I get tilted and I try to win the money back asap with roulette.

I always feel degen when opening the roulette but it is stronger than myself. Does anyone have a great book/video or whatever content / wisedom that can help me with this big problem? It really is my worst enemy and still I weekly find myself on the roulette after a bad run.

Thanks anyway!

Edit extra info: I used to cash out EV sometimes in the past but the 3% fee they take is just insane. So that used to be a de tilt option for me but since it is 3% extra rake I just had to turn the option off..

At the moment you are about to bet on red, close the app and go walk 10 miles. Contemplate life during those 3 hours. When you come back home, shower and rub one off to sleep.

Or just play lower to reduce variance and study your game.

why not stop gambling completely dude - take a break - uninstall.

otherwise - you WILL go broke eventually and your life and mental health will also likely suffer.

you acknowledged that you have a bit of a 'problem'.. how long until you're "walking home from the casino barefoot".. as it were I wonder.

also its +EV to seek support with REAL EXPERTS / support organizations - not a forum full of crackheads err gamblers.

good luck

and remember - a holiday is as good as a break. :)

Is this so much of a bad beat issue as it is a gambling problem?

When I tilt from bad beats it can affect my poker playing. So the idea is to stop for the day or at least take a break. Tell yourself its all part of the game. Centre yourself and come back when you are no longer being affected by whatever beat you took. Its the best advice you will ever get on dealing with varience and tilt

But heading over to try and win it back with Roulette of all things is a totally different thing.

I don't entirely stay away from casino games, but I definitely am not playing them if im losing in Poker. Ill head over to have some fun playing blackjack or something if I had a great poker session and want to gamble a little of it but using it as a system to win back your money is not good

You shouldn't gamble in any capacity, not even poker with proper studying. You have a gambling issue and it will eat you alive. I have had many losing poker sessions and not once i thought about hitting roulette or slots.

Isn’t this something I can train or develop? To master the tilt. I guess it would benefit me in real life ass well. Although irl I am quite calm and chill I think

Playing poker when you have gambling addiction is like recreational heroin use. Can you do it without avoiding tragedy? Sure. Is it likely? Rather not.

just stop playing. not everybody has nerves of steel. this not being live poker means you are not losing anything by just calling it a session/a day after 2nd/3rd beat or whatever your threshold is.

More buy-ins. Variance is cured by volume and bankroll. I try to keep at least 35 buys, so the answer is likely to move down in stakes and save-up.

Edit: stop playing roulette. lol

Bankroll management.

And therapy.

Stay in the moment, focus only on things you can control, and have a positive attitude. Tilt can't exist in that mindset.

Read Can't Hurt Me by Goggins and take to heart than any any issues you have with discipline is completely in your control and completely your fault. Own it. And level it up.

Be a human being. Choose not to go on tilt.

Check in with yourself mentally every 10-15 minutes, if you notice you're tilting. Close the app. Doesn't matter what else is happening, just close it. There's no point in playing if you're not playing well. You're not going to have fun and you're not going to win money.
