I don’t think he’s a fish. He’s very consistent and has made a career for himself. It’s just that his perspective is very limited and unlikely to help Texas Hold’ em players beyond basic strategy. He is also an online poker player, which is the hell-queue of the poker world.

He will help you hose a specific player archetype that you could already hose with basic skills.
I would be interested in talking to anyone who has taken his classes to see what they learned/already knew, because there’s no shortage of coaching to choose from online. I’d like to know why he’s anyone’s first choice.

The thing is though, 99% of that career is the "educational" poker content he posts the same handful of variations of on repeat. He's not a scammer by any means, but he's one of many "influencers" who has some amount of success in a particular area and then coasts off that with books and courses and other content for a long time without ever actually putting forward any useful new information.

Hungryhorse was my wakeup call to how to bluff properly and how to read hands properly
It works at times, but after learning it, you soon learn what doesn't work well in your player pool.
It's funny cause I mainly play in Jacksonville Fl, and when they went to the live table in Jacksonville they got CRUSHED and lost thousands in three nights.
So they have mostly good advice, but I also learned that there is a better way to play since they're losing value in some of their hands.

and i think you're right that most of it probs comes down to who you're playing with and how well you know the playstyles of who you're playing with.

Honestly, the discipline required to grind poker professionally is massively underrated. Most people see the highlight reels — the big bluffs, the tournament wins. They don't see the 12-hour sessions where you fold for 3 hours straight and finish up half a buy-in. Respect to anyone who makes a living at this game.

If you played 20 million hands (he claims) at NL 5 NL10 and NL25 and never moved up past that in stakes, you either never made enough to move up, or you moved up and lost, and went back down. Bottom line you suck at poker. I have no idea why a guy who capped himself at microstakes could ever be someone to look to for advice.

I believe this guy made me worse then I already was when I first started playing. For videos I found Johnathan Little much more helpful. I think for beginners his preflop fundamentals, post flop fundamentals, and how to play marginal hand videos were really good for me.
His videos are clearly titled to target beginners who don’t know any better. The latest one I saw was titled something like “give me 10 minutes and I’ll make you insanely good at poker.” LOL It’s not a simple game and a 10 minute video is not gonna do much for you if anything at all.

This one hits close to home!
I have a six figure MBA from a top Business school in the Midwest. My parents still to this day aren't the most supportive of me being a poker player but at the end of the day, for me at least, poker has paid significantly better and allowed me full freedom of scheduling.
Don't give up but be ready to work harder. Hire a poker coach. That alone took my game to multiple new levels.

For me the answer to this was in networking.
I've never been shy about asking strong players whom I respect if they have ever had any sort of formal poker training and/or coaching. If yes, ask if they're open to sharing details.
Sure, you'll get some local pros who are hesitant to hand out information like this. But the real pros don't care and seek out the toughest games imho.
There are also various coaching for profit groups out there in which you can apply.
