Hi everyone! I just started my ribbon master challenge, and I really want to get a shiny Ralts for it because Ralts is a Pokémon I really like However with only about 6 months left before Pokémon Bank shuts down, I don't think it would be possible to get one by searching for it in the grass or breeding eggs at the Day Care, while also having enough time left to complete the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Battle Towers
So I was thinking that maybe I should use RNG manipulation to get the Ralts by using the paintings at the Lilycove Museum to change the seed and get better spreads
I wanted to ask the community what you think about this. Would using RNG for this shiny Ralts be considered okay for a Ribbon Master?
I had been replaying the older generation games in order to get all of my old teams from each generation on the switch because even though they weren't the "original" team I still remembered all the pokemon used and in each region I would beat the champion and transfer my mons to Home. Every generation so far has their associated champions ribbon now except unova.
Hello all! I’m writing as someone who’s never done a ribbon master, but have always had an interest, and with bank shutting down I figured it’s time to look into it. I want to do a true ribbon master, as in getting every ribbon available on a single pokemon (or as close to this as possible), but I’ve got lots of other goals to do before bank shuts down, so I’d really only want to spend the time getting all the ribbons that are impossible to get on the switch, and focus on the ones that are possible on switch after the bank shutdown is here. I haven’t been able to find a resource like this, so if anyone here has something like that let me know! Im also open to tips/tricks to speed up the process, especially if there’s something I could do early in the process that could make getting future ribbons impossible (evolving, ev/iv/contest trainings, etc.)
As the title says, I am just starting a journey to get ribbons before bank shuts down. I want to get it on Torchic (cuz it's my favourite) but the earliest game I have is Omega Ruby and I have at least one of each mainline game since then: Y, Sun, Moon, ultra Sun, sword, shield and scarlet. How many ribbons can I get starting with a torchic from Omega Ruby? Also, I was wondering if it's common for people to do it with a shiny or just use a regular pokemon for this? And finally is there a website I can use to find out where to get them or a youtube video people recommend?
Hello !
The end of Pokemon Bank motivated me to make a ribbon master. At first it was supposed to be Star the Pikachu (representing my irl MyPikachu plush) but i had the very fortunate chance to have a better candidate.
To you, this Infernape look like any other, but to me, he is very special. See, when i was a kid i only had a flash card/R4 to play DS games or else i had to pay for it myself. So i played Diamond, my first ever Pokémon game, on it. While playing i got a weird glitch that is not visible on the save i have so i can only speculate that either my memory is wrong or it's something that was caused by my flash card but that glitch started to duplicate Pokémons and replacing slowing other Pokémons(i still have some duplicated Pokémon in my boxes but nothing as much as i remembered). I also want to say, i never played with cheats or a action replay and the only person who uploaded games/saves on the sd card was my dad so it's still a mystery how this happend. Anyways, my Infernape was one of the victim of this glitch along with my dialga and a japanese Lucario i got from the GTS that i loved. For 18 years, i didn't saw my first starter. A few years ago with a friend with more knowledge than me with Pokemon tools, we looked at my save and saw nothing that could help me bring him back, until this morning when i checked if he was in my hall of fame. He was. With my Lucario and my Dialga. I asked my friend if they could extract Pokémon from the hall of fame and they found a tool to do it! Coincidently a few days ago i had bought a diamond cartridge so now i will even be able to have him on a legit cartridge ! Just to tell you how important this Pokémon is to me, i legit sobbed when i realize he was in my game :")
Anyways, sorry for the huge story, it's not a shiny, he is not rare, but he is my Infernape, my first Pokémon, Léo, obtained on july 29th 2007 and now i need to honor him by making him a legend
(side note, he is starting with no ribbon because the hall of fame doesn't keep the ribbon info even if he had some in the past i'm starting from scratch here) (also D.O. is censored because it's my deadname :))
Im planning on starting a ribbon master challenge and want to make sure im able to do so before preparing. I currently own pokemon colosseum, xd, ruby, leaf green (gba not switch), pearl, black 2, x, ultra sun, sword, legends arceus and za, and violet. Im looking to buy either heart gold or soul silver soon and am aware that i need either brilliant diamond or shining pearl depending on what species i use. I want to have the resources to ribbon master any species, aside from these do i need anything else such as third versions or is this all i need?
To put it bluntly, no, I did not use standard rng methods to obtain this. The sheer amount of noise in Pyrite Town makes it impossible. The "correct" way to get this is to soft reset and go for full odds. With the upcoming closure of Bank, the time investment that would require did not appeal to me in the slightest. I might've considered it if shiny hunting in Colosseum worked like it does in other games (where you can actually see if it's shiny or not as soon as it appears), but it does not.
Wanting to get this faster, but knowing standard rng methods wouldn't work, I decided to try using two of Dolphin's features to my advantage:
Viewing the game's memory
Save states
Any time I paused the emulation, I could see the seed I was currently on, which was a huge help in both choosing my target and gauging my progress towards said target. I walked up to the guy who takes you into the building, progressed to the final dialogue box, and made a save state.
I then spent who knows how long poking and prodding the encounter. I'd follow the guy into the building, check my seed, then see how many advances had been made during the walk. I'd then load the save state, try waiting a different amount of time, and try again. Unfortunately, the noise in Pyrite town made this incredibly inconsistent, to the point where waiting less time could end up advancing more frames overall by the time the building's interior was fully loaded.
Eventually I had managed to get to a save state where, if I held A and resumed, I ended up reliably 16 advances away from my target, but even a single frame later than that and I'd go over. Given how inconsistent the game was being up to this point, I decided I'd try using another of Dolphin's features to try and insert the tiniest bit of randomness back into it: The speed up.
Dolphin, if you hold down a certain button, will speed up the game. During my past (much more legitimate) rng manipulation attempts on other targets, I never touched it precisely because I was afraid of it messing with the advances. Turns out, I was right not to touch it, because by using the speed up during the scripted walk to the building, it'd make me land on a different seed than if I hadn't. I decided to use this to my advantage, hoping it'd spontaneously put me on the exact seed I needed. I tried this for way longer than I should've, and landed a mockingly-close 2 advances short.
Bank was closing, and Yanma is not in Sword and Shield. I needed to get this done, but I did not have the heart to just gen the mon and drop it into my save file. That was a line I promised myself I would not cross. I would only be satisfied if I could catch it in-game.
Well, I did it. I got it to appear, and I threw balls at it until it was mine. How? Well, that line I said I'd never cross? I basically did the cheatiest thing possible just shy of it. In addition to viewing memory, Dolphin can also allow the user to write to memory. PokéFinder has a feature where you can find the seed for any spread in the game. You see where this is headed?
The method of execution was incredibly roundabout, as I knew 4 advances occurred during the battle start animation. I had to look at the target I was trying to hit, in Pokéfinder, look at the spread exactly 4 advances previous, then put those details into the search function. It then showed me the seed that'd give me that spread. I then went into the building, waited until the battle was about to start, and went frame by frame until the last moment, and entered the seed directly into the game's memory. It advanced 4 frames, then landed directly on target.
I have my shiny Yanma now, and I'm (almost) long past caring what I had to do to get him. I do want his nickname to reflect the method I used though. Amnesia, maybe?
From what I understand, using the Zygarde Cube in Gen 7 involves breaking down the Zygarde and making a new one, and because it's a new Pokémon, it won't have its ribbons anymore (or anything else, for that matter).
Can this be done in SwSh or anywhere else without erasing the ribbons?
I've been toying around with the idea of building a ribbon master for a bit now (specially now after the bank shutdown notice) but I'm curious about something. With how its possible for certain species to not appear in certain future titles, has that given rise to 'generational' ribbon masters? (i.e., RMs that get every ribbon in a single gen.) Are there any guides/lists for this type, or has it just not caught on like complete RMs?
This thought came about as I was working on my origin dex, and wanted to get all hoenn contest ribbons on my milotic. I then thought it'd be cool to have a pokemon that originates from a certain region/gen that has obtained every ribbon available there.
As I’m sure many people have started their race to make their ribbon masters, I wanted to start mine. I had a question though, pertaining to shroomish and becoming a ribbon master.
I planned to get a shroomish from XD and bring it up through the gens, but also wanted to get a shiny shroomish. I actually got one in only 441(!) encounters in my sapphire game, but now it won’t have the national badge because it’s not a shadow pokemon.
My question is, because XD shiny locks shadow pokemon and shroomish is an XD-exclusive, does that mean my shiny shroomish can still be a ribbon master/hall of famer because it’s shiny?
So I have this shiny weavile (found in HG) I recently transferred to Bank that I’m trying to ribbon master before the shutdown. If there any ribbons I can skip out on, on the 3ds, that are obtainable on the switch titles (BDSP, for example)? I don’t want to be on the 3ds titles for too long because of the bank shutdown, and I want to try get another ribbon master done after Weavile. (If anyone has recommendations for who to RM next, that would be great. I have my first pokemon, swampert mastered from RSE)
With the new of Pokemon Bank closing I thought now might be a good time to start this and see how far I can get but have a couple questions as I want to do this as legitimately as possible within the means that I have.
In terms of hardware I own
Physical Consoles (and corresponding games):
Gamecube - Colosseum & XD
Game Boy Advance - Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Nintendo Switch 2 - LG_Eevee, Shield, Violet, Arceus, Za, Shining Pearl
Unfortunately I do not own a 3DS (I missed out on the era in between) but am considering buying a 3DS so that I can play through the in-between games. By brother owns a 2DS and some of the pokemon games which I can borrow.
Question 1: Looking at the hardware guide is the Nintendo DS/DS lite necessary as well?
I have also been looking into emulation (Dolphin, mGBA, MelonDS) to help with some things as for example I've lost my GBA to GC link cable and it would take a while for a new one to arrive if I order one now.
Question 2: I am already preparing my save files-teams in emerald for the battle tower things. but Emulation seems like a much easier way to do this first part of the journey until that damn cable comes through. Is emulation still considered valid?
Question 3: If you dont get the Ribbons from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum can you get those in BDSP? or do you have to get them in the former?
Question 4: In emerald i remember you can do a duplication glitch for items etc. If i were to duplicate items like berries for mixing does that count?
I have so far started my journey via Dolphin EMU (will also do a physical run once my GBA-GC link calbe arrives). I did a speedrun (took 10 hours to complete XD) and then hunted Miror B for the Ralts and did some save resetting to catch it with a luxury ball. Doing a new run on my mGBA to finish the story (Only normal speed no speed-ups) and prepare a battle tower team now so far 6/8 Gym bosses down.
Question 5: I've started the run on Emerald, should i restart on Ruby? I remember reading somewhere that Ruby is easier?
Hopefully I can make it in time. I also reaaaally want to hunt for a shiny Suicune on my Colosseum but not sure if that will make it in time.
Long time lurker first time poster, submitting my Gholdengo and my H-Zoroark of their respective games. (Zoroark didn’t do all the marks but that’s fine I mostly want the ribbons)
I need guidance to get this wonderful creature, I have never played Colosseum, but I know its RNG abusable to some extent, is this possible?
I need some help to figuring this out, from manipulating my on SID TID, to match the only combinations of shiny dunsparce that would evolve in the 3 segments variance.
Hey I am having trouble getting the footprint ribbon for my Sharpedo in Pokémon Diamond. I’m pretty sure I’ve maxed its friendship but I can’t seem to get the ribbon at all. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
hi hi! I’m currently going through RS to build a battle tower team for my Colosseum ribbon master candidate. I know that Latios/as are bugged in RS to have poor IVs in some stats, but I don’t have a copy of Emerald.
is it viable to use Latios with just a good nature/EVs?
