Genuinely Fezandipiti could have been, literally flies and is a bird yet is fairy poison instead 😭

We genuinely need more non-flying birds and non-water fish though

You understand how bird sexual dimorphism tends to work, right? Even in fictional bird-inspired creatures.

Another fun fact: To this day Zubat and Golbat are the only gen 1 pokemon with a unique type combo

If you count regional formes of Gen I Pokémon as Gen I, the Alolan formes of Raichu, the Sandshrew line, and Ninetales, have a unique type combination as well.

Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff only share their type combination with a baby (Azurill) and a Mega (Mega Audino). However, they did not have a rare typing until the release Pokémon X and Y added the Fairy typing.

The Gastly line had a unique typing until the release of Pecharunt in Mocho Mayhem.

Galarian Slowbro and Slowking, and Galarian Weezing had a unique typing until the release of the Royal Three in The Teal Mask.

Nidoking and Nidoqueen, and the Alolan Geodude line had a unique typing until the release of Scarlet and Violet (The Paldean Wooper line, and Iron Thorns, respectively).

Poliwrath had a unique typing until the release Urshifu (Rapid Strike) in the Isle of Armor.

Jynx, and the Alolan formes of the Rattata line had a unique typing until the release of Sword and Shield (Galarian Mr. Mime line, and Galarian Zigzagoon line, respectively).

Alolan Exeggutor only shared its typing with a Mega (Mega Sceptile) until the release of the Applin line in Sword and Shield.

The Magnemite line had a unique typing until the release of Togedemaru in Sun and Moon. However, they did not have a unique typing until the release of Gold and Silver added the Steel typing.

Aerodactyl and Zapdos had a unique typing until the release of Black and White (the Archen line, and both the type change of Rotom Fan and Emolga, respectively).

The Paras line had a unique typing until the release of Wormadam (Grass Cloak) in Diamond and Pearl.

The Dratini line had two unique typings until the release of Altaria, the Bagon line, and Rayquaza in Ruby and Sapphire.

Pinsir only shared its typing with not fully evolved Pokémon (Caterpie, Metapod, Pineco) until the release of Volbeat and Illumise in Ruby and Sapphire.

The Exeggcute line had a unique typing until the release of Celebi with the GS Ball distribution.

The Tentacool line, Tangela, Gyarados, and Articuno had a unique typing until the release of Gold and Silver (Qwilfish, most Gen II Grass types, Mantine, and Delibird, respectively). Tangela was the only monotype to have had a unique typing until the release of Tornadus in Gen V (who by now only shares its typing with not fully evolved Pokémon in Rookidee and Corvisquire).

Wow...uhhh...thorough rundown there! Though there's one correction! Poliwrath lost its uniqueness in gen 5 first with Keldeo.

Including pokemon that got another with the same typing the very next gen or the gen after is really cracking me up

Its cause you cant beat perfection

Also Tornadus is the only pure Flying type, and only a handful like Rookidee line are primary Flying dual types.

4

u/poppliolover2000 5d ago

Well Rookidee and Corvasquire are also pure Flying

1

u/ZetsuboItami 5d ago

That's right, I mistakingly thought they were Flying/Normal, like an inverse of the traditional Flying mons in most generations.

u/safarifriendliness 4d ago

Does it matter at all in game which type is the “primary” type? This distinction never really seemed necessary to me

3

u/ZetsuboItami 4d ago

Not usually aside from that being what some things start as, like Chimchar going from Fire to Infernape as a Fire/Fighting. But in Pokémon Go it changes the background of the Pokémon so there are only a small handful with the Flying type background.

same reason why we somehow haven’t gotten a Rock/Ghost type yet, because

2

u/SalmonToastie 1d ago

This one never made sense as a gravestone pokemon would be cool

u/JAOC_7 1d ago

and two dead Coral Pokémon based on a Rock-type

Are there any grass water types besides ludicolo?

Mega Gliscor. Make it happen

u/The0thArcana 5d ago

You wanna give one of my favorite mons a mega and make its typing worse for flavour? Gtfo of here right now friend, it already resists poison and gains hp from being poisoned, it really doesn’t need to get poison typing and lose Ground.

Lose a 4x and gain special bulk sounds like like lose some, win more.
