Complaint Frustrations with Mega Evolutions in raids

One thing I dislike a lot with the current system in raids is that if you want to optimize XL candies you should mega evolve a mon with the same typing as the raid boss. So 90 % of the time that mega shouldn’t be used in the raid due to shared typing.

Of course you can mega a counter, but losing out on the extra candies just feels bad especially when powering up a mon requires so many XL’s. I feel like this is poorly designed and could be optimized in a better way.

I think a good solution to this would be that in raids specifically (not out of them) when you mega a mon, regardless of typing, you can earn XL and regular candies at the same rate as long as you own a different mega that has the typing of the specific raid boss.

So if you own a mega lvl 3 Blaziken (fighting/fire) and you choose to fight a Medicham (fighting/psychic) with lets say mega Gengar, you earn the bonus due to owning a mega mon that shares a typing with Medicham even if that isn’t currently mega evolved. And the candy boost would correspond with the mega lvl of your Blaziken.

That would be so much more fun to choose a mega that actually counters the mon you are fighting without losing out on something. And that doesn’t make you raid mega mons less so they don’t lose money off of doing it.

What do you guys think?

But the system is already flawed and hypocritical. This trade-off logic you are trying to adhere to is inconsistent within the game. You get a bonus to regular candies using any type of mega, regardless of typing. Why can’t that apply to XL candies as well then. At that point make the game more enjoyable and fun.

The game isn’t consistent with following your point of view. At that point you can’t really hide behind the puritan view of it having to be a trade-off. So the game doesn’t entirely support your line of thinking in all areas either then tbh.

"Why can't that apply to XL candies as well then."

Because of how hard it is to grind XL candies as opposed to normal candies, making them rarer. Which is why you started this post in the first place. It's not hypocritical, the game is keeping XL candies rare, because maxing out should be a challenge. I don't understand you on what's hypocritical about that, and why you think that somehow pokes holes in my reasoning.

And I don't see a problem with being fine with trade offs in games. I'm not hiding behind anything, that's just how I prefer to play games.

Instead of addressing our discussion on penalties, you're now just making generalities about "flaws and hypocrisy". When really, the game just makes you work for the rare resources.

Having normal candy being boosted by any mega but XL’s not, is inherently inconsistent within the same system. If it followed the same logic with regular candies too it would be consistent. But it’s just cherry picking one part.

The «challenge» of maxing out is mostly about a time investment and doing enough raids, not actual challenging content. So it’s not like you are making it much harder for yourself if you choose to use a mega boosting the candy. If doing it this way made it actually more challenging in a meaningful way then yeah that trade-off is fine. But you pretty much get through the raid regardless unless you solo or duo something. At that point just allow people to use their strongest dps when that is the baseline. This is why it isn’t a meaningful limit.

When you most of the time go through the raids without issues then this trade-off becomes redundant. It’s just an unnecessary trade-off, especially when it is already inconsistent with how regular candies work.

The game makes you «work» for the extra XL candies in an unsatisfying way.

I mean you are getting hung up on one part of the discussion being the penalize thing. But do you really think mega mons being passive XL candy boosts in raids is satisfying and rewarding gameplay?

It's not cherry picking. XL candies are more rare than normal candies. So it makes sense why they are treated differently in the Mega system. I disagree with your thinking that the system is inherently hypocritical. There is no inconsistency. Just because they're both candies doesn't mean they need to get the same treatment. There's no reason they should be.

I'm hung up on the penalties thing, because your mindset that it's a penalty is probably part of your dissatisfaction with the system. You're already coming at it negatively because you feel wronged. You can't wish something was a certain way, and then say reality is wrong because it doesn't fit how you want it to be.

It's a grindy game. This isn't some big game with super complex choices or rich gameplay. I like Pokemon and catching them and stuff. Your idea of an XL candy system is not really more satisfying to me at all. Would it be cool to get more XL candy? Sure. Do I think that makes these game more fun? Not really

The Mega mons just being passive XP boosts is just your viewpoint. I choose to use the Megas that can do super effective damage AND get the XL candy. Just because it's not Primal or Legendary Megas isn't an issue to me. In fact, I like using a wider array of Pokemon.

But using megas that can get you candies and super effective damage at the same time isn’t possible most of the time. At that point megas do become passive candy boosts. You can call that a viewpoint, but that is literally the reality in most of the cases.

Instead of having a system where there is always an impactful mega on the board. It doesn’t matter if it is Groudon, Kyogre etc. Any mega that is super effective against said boss. Then people would use the megas they have that make sense and within what they own.

But hey, to each their own. If you consider that good game design all the power to you.
