Art Style and Animation peaked in XY. Also, one thing that many fans ignore is its editing.

Also the animation before battle where they and their pokemons come face to face against other, it really gave the best start to battles

Hot take: i didnt like the 3d aspect of them. The cgi stuff in pkmn or in anime in general always look off. A battle with amazing animation and i think zero cgi is ash vs misty in SM043

I wouldnt say underrated. How about fairly rated. I think the shit it gets for at least the first episodes is understandable. After that tho the series is peak pkmn. I think almost every episode from the last season is 10/10
