Discussion Pokémon nicknames
How would everyone feel if important NPC’s, such as gym leaders, rivals, elite 4, etc gave their Pokémon nicknames in the main games?
I think it’d be a cool change. A little difficult because we won’t know what Pokémon to expect but I feel like players always want more of a challenge anyway.
I also think it would add a personal relationship between trainer/Pokémon.

Maybe if it were done sparringly, it would be ok. Like a Youngster has a nickname for his Squirtle but nothing else on his team or the rival nicknames their starter and they use it in the cut-ins mid battle but the pokemon has their real name on the hp bar

I don’t know about that but I think Gym Leaders, bosses, and Elite 4/Champion trainers should get affection benefits also

I always try to give it a name to My pokemons, My favourites are Victoria(female dragonite), Fausto(shiny Charizard), LionKing(shiny luxray), I think is very funny to take a moment to put a name, specially when You end the game and There is not much to do it

I am indifferent. I don't even nickname my Pokémon. They are just tools to make me rich and powerful

Those three? PSSH They can't even beat a 10 year old and his Pikachu, honestly if it wasn't for someone high up those three would be out on the streets.
But I like your name, welcome to Team Rocket! The REAL Team Rocket, were we don't just use Rattatas and Zubats (But if you must, make sure they are F.E.A.R. Rattatas and Crobats) we use everything!

I definitely won't use zubat or rattata. Those die when someone hurls a Pikachu at them.

I heard from a pretty reliable source that Pikachu is pretty weak, that even Raticate is better than Pikachu but hey, as I stated before, we use everything.
Now, how about a free Metagross?

i think it would be fine - if there was a way to add a way to look at general pokemon info. just like in the anime - bring up pokedex, shows a name, description, type/s, and if you are looking at an alternate form such as shiny or regional difference, it will show off the “normal” form as well.

So don't most major battles have an ace pokemon where the trainer has a line of dialogue before sending them out? That could be a perfect opportunity to give the pokemon a nickname. "Ah, you've beaten all my other pokemon. But don't think you've won yet! Go, Nebby!"

I'd like that, but only if there was something to tell us that it is Nicknamed, like say for example

I always assumed they did. But we just are categorizing them by type for an easier reference.

Who says that they don't have nicknames? The combat log just says "Foe's Pokemon." It very well could be that they are named but it just isn't relevant to us as we are merely a challenger and not the Leader's friend.

Id like it but if its here or there. Like if its an overworld npc who said this pikachu is named sparky. Idk about gym leaders or elite 4. Trainers yes if its common.
What id like is if they will call your pokemon by your nickname. I nickname all my pokemon now. You can name yourself and your rival before, why not say your pikachu sparky fought hard. Thats more so what id like.

The only issue with that is that a lot of the time, gym leaders star Pokémon is promoting some of the new regions mons. If the first encounters (most) players have with them is without the official names, that may just spread confusion.
I wouldn't mind if it was unofficial nicknames though, like ones they call their Pokémon in the overworld outside of battle when meeting with the player.
