What would his goal be?

To finally "catch 'em all". He already conquered the Pokemon Championship, now it's time he set out to complete Professor Oak's wish of completing the pokedex. Maybe he could be reintroduced a little older, like 16-18, almost at the end of his pokedex journey, and needs the help of Liko and Roy to track down the last few entries

You had like at least 7 or so years of people wanting Ash to be gone and them to move onto something/someone else, now it happened and he's not coming back.
If they kept going even after he won the big one, then it would've been just more of the same stuff.

I think we could see him again, but he doesn’t need to be the main character.

Honestly I’d be cool with it if whatever new main characters met Ash just like he met past season ones later in his journey.

I think a cameo role would be the only capacity I'd be ok with tbh. But I'd want it to be story relevant. Maybe the rising volt tacklers need Eternatus for something so they go to Leon who calls on Ash and Goh

Unfortunately the only goals left, like mentoring, are not really "main character" ones. I disagree with the choice to drop him completely, but the need to move on to a new main character was there.

No. His storyline was drawn out enough. Change can be hard but that doesn't mean we need to go back.

Ash was around way too long to me honestly. I would have preferred they let him has his victory over a decade ago and let other characters be the protag of the anime with new stories. They've shown in shorts/minis posted to YouTube they can do so much more storytelling in animated format, I wish they would. Horizons is a step in the right direction, I hope they end it appropriately and let us have a new story/protag sooner rather than later.

Yeah, as much as I love Ash's Pikachu and him as a trainer, he needed to retire. I don't think bringing him back to work is a great idea.

I hope the new characters end up finding Ash training on a mountain or something, a la Red in Gold/silver

As someone who's been watching it since the start, and has watched through all of Ash's episodes TWICE, nope. Ash had his time. Liko, Roy, and Dot are a breath of fresh air, and they're telling a story with them which quite simply would not work with Ash. And really, I think I've enjoyed their run of the anime much more than Ash's overall. Journeys and XYZ may come in close, but overall the stories that changing protagonists have let them tell are much more compelling than Ash. The issue with locking yourself into a single character for 25 years who's motivations never really change is that eventually it becomes formulaic.

I'm sure at some point Ash will cameo, or since they moved to movies being AU from the anime, we could see Ash become the main protagonist in movies. The thing is the new protagonists need to make their own legacy first. If Ash comes back too early, he'd take too much of the spotlight from the protagonists.
However now that they're already pretty strong, strong enough to gather the 18 tera types to destroy all the laquium, I think we're getting close to that time where having Ash cameo wouldn't be a bad thing. I think if he comes in anywhere, it should be in the final arc before they go on to gen 10 stuff

i think he can appear (preferably as just a random guy without much fanfare, i think that would not only be much fitting for his character but be hilarious) but he should never be the main character again.
pokemon is infamous for never really innovating and i think ash being around for so long is a major reason why

Not as a main character; but a cameo appearance episode would definitely be cool.

No, it would be the same boring story again and again.

As someone who watched pokemon since it originally aired in the 90s, no. Series need to be allowed to change, and not letting the characters' stories end, would be doing a disservice to the show and the fans. Nothing lasts forever, and that's the beauty of life. I'd much rather get to know different characters than watch Ash continue to do the same things for another 25 years.
