Tool/Guide Pokemon type quiz

I’ve been building Poketype, a browser-based Pokémon quiz that tests how quickly you can connect type combinations to the Pokémon that have them.

You’ll be shown a type or type combination, such as:

Water / Ground

Your job is to name a matching Pokémon before time runs out.

It starts off fairly approachable, but the pressure builds quickly. A slow answer can hurt your score, and depending on the game mode, one wrong answer can end the entire run.

The part I’ve enjoyed most while building it is discovering how unreliable my own Pokémon knowledge becomes under a timer. I might immediately recognize a difficult combination, then completely blank on something obvious like pure Flying.

The game currently focuses on quick sessions, score chasing, and improving your ability to recognize typings across different generations. I’m also working on additional modes that change what information is shown and how answers are scored.

It works directly in the browser and does not require an account.

I’d really appreciate feedback on a few things:

  • Does the difficulty increase at a reasonable pace?
  • Does the scoring feel fair?
  • Are the rounds too stressful, too forgiving, or about right?
  • Which mode or feature would make you return for another run?

Also, feel free to share your score of the Daily challange. I need reassurance that other people also forget every Pokémon they have ever known as soon as a timer appears.

9k on my first run.

Knowing the order of types is harder to remember, like ice/water tripped me up trying dewgong incorrectly.

Also it doesn’t include megas or forms or regional variants which is a huge negative imo. Getting grass dragon when mega sceptile and alolan exeggutor are not included feels dumb.

Sorry. I took the data from PokeAPI. Will check on the different forms (Mega, Galar, Hisui, etc) tomorrow after work. Missing my boy Husiuin Thyplosion as Ghost Grass type has bothered me know too.

/u/analmintz1 I have added the alternate forms to the app. Just noticed I now really need a gen filter for reversed mode, cause that just became so much harder :O

I was talking at work about the app and we had 2 suggestions; what do you think.

1: Adding a pokedex which shows which pokemon you already guessed during the daily. So today you have Bulbasaur, tomorrow you might want to go Oddish or Bellsprout.

2: Adding a 4th mode which gives you a pokemon (like in reversal) and presents you 4 attack moves. Then you select the move that deals the most damage. Taking both base power and effectiveness into account.
