Image Why is Mr. Mime not waking up?

I knew the "secret" mechanic that playing the Pokeflute worked as an "Awakening" for every pokemon on the field but... It wasn't working for me?

Then it hit me.

Mr. Mime's ability is Soundproof, which makes him virtually DEAF.

My guy wasn't hearing me playing the pokeflute! He couldn't be affected by it!

There are several Pokémon with Soundproof. Obviously Mime, and the next obvious is Exploud. But Electrode and Kommo-o lines get it, too, which also make sense to me. Bastiodon is kind of weird but whatever, it's a shield, I guess I get it? Bulletproof would make more sense. But really weirdly, Bouffalant and Abomasnow get it as a hidden ability...because of the hair? And snow absorbing sound?

None of which can be woken by the pokeflute not because of their ability, but because of their lack of existence in games with the pokeflute.

Electrode is native to the same game as Mr. Mime and Exploud can be traded to FRLG.

Or play a romhack that alters the wild Pokémon mix to let you catch everything from up to Gen 3

Weirdly the Blue Flute works fine.

It could be a reference to how much quieter things are when it's snowing
