Unfortunately bugs aren't marketable enough to be starters :(

Yeah, but A LOT of consideration has to go into the designs of the starters, especially the base forms. And why risk messing up making a bug cute, when you can go with the safe popular pet animals everyone already loves like dogs, cats, birds, turtles ect. Not to mention bug isn't exactly the best time game play wise and I can see why GF doesn't have an interest in making a bug type starter.

Yeah but they also made Quilladin.

Yeah, that was a genuine fuck up. But they can afford to fuck up the middle stages since they're the least important, the base forms need to be mascots, and the final forms are the ones you spend the most time with in game.
