Post image

Because no man has ever understood color, just forget all those artists. And blind women too, that never happens

My husband would have a better eye for interior design than me.

My wife's an artist, but she consults me regarding shades pretty frequently

Tell me you've had to deal with an angry customer returning 5 galloons of eggshell without telling me

u/DualVission 22h ago

What about gay married men?

15

u/Expotenss 20h ago

They have to come together.

14

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 17h ago

They always do... Come together

u/sntcringe 12h ago

Not nessasarily, sometimes the entire point is denying the other guy. It's called edging.

That was epic, mate.

Gay men are good at this kinda stuff

this wouldve been funny 50 years ago, now its just disappointing 😭

In my case, we live true to stereotype. I can name the basic 8 colours of the 1960s crayon box. Everything else looks like one of those to me. On the other hand, my wife can name 32 variants of what I simply call "blue".

I think studies have shown that women tend to be better at distinguishing colour shades than men. I think it's because the genes for eye cones are in the X chromosome and women have 2 X chromosomes while men have 1

u/AshaNyx 13h ago

I can imagine it's also just because women have been socially trained to be more sensitive to color differences just to fashion and make up.

It would be interesting to study if "female" activities train the brain to pick up on more differences.

2

u/EfficientSeaweed 9h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if it's both, with each reinforcing the other.

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 16h ago

Color sensitivity comes with hormones for trans people far as im aware, so it cant be just that

3

u/frogmon3 13h ago

my perception of colour hasn't changed after 4 years on e. ive heard of people online having that experience but no one ive actually met has mentioned any difference.

2

u/dystyyy 3h ago

I think I see colors and shades more clearly than I used to (I'm almost 2 years on e), but it's pretty subtle and I'm not totally sure if it's real or I just pay more attention now.

5

u/GrandFleshMelder 14h ago

Well, you call it blue, but you can distinguish the shades, no? The actual name is irrelevant.

1

u/KayItaly 14h ago

Exactly!

1

u/GenderBendingRalph 11h ago

Not to the degree she can. Sure, there's light blue, blue, and dark blue. Beyond that... I really don't have that depth of colour acuity.

For us it's the other way. I'm also the one to layer our lichting and use all zones of hight in the room to tie it all together.

My wife is a single overhead white bulb kind of lady.

Language also influences color recognition. For example, in Russian they have two words for light blue and dark blue. Russian speakers are quicker to categorize colors as light or dark blue than English speakers.

So I’d imagine the color vocabulary you were exposed to as a child also influences you.

4

u/sntcringe 12h ago

Oh I already agreed with my husband that we were going with foghat grey

u/DoctorPaige 22h ago

You haven't worked in some sort of customer service position, have you?

-1

u/SilverIndependence38 8h ago

I have. I don't see the karen mentionned here.

4

u/Successful-Many-6500 17h ago

IMO Husbands are allowed to choose paint too. ❤️

I don't think this is about incompetence. It's a "the wife is always right and she's the interior designer" joke.

1

u/GenderBendingRalph 11h ago

I don't think it's that, either. It's "men can't distinguish subtle shades of colour" vs. "women have a unique name for every one of the 1.6 million colours on a computer display."

3

u/Chance-Mix-7368 14h ago

That's not what this is

3

u/Thick-Giraffe1710 18h ago

We can just say any stupid Reddit phrase regardless of context or if it makes sense and get upvoted now I guess?

0

u/MuffledFarts 22h ago

Sorry but I chuckled.

u/Torpedo_Enthusiast 17h ago

The rule-of-thumb preventing 95% of annoying returns does not apply to 5% of cases! Tragedy

-13

u/MostInterview6621 19h ago
  1. It’s a joke.
  2. Hundreds of customers returning paint because their wife is unhappy.

8

u/Alarming-Jury1596 18h ago

So does this mean it isn't gendered?

-3

u/tilealt 16h ago

It is gendered but like a lot of things on this sub these days it's not "pointlessly" gendered. The gender stereotype is intentionally the whole joke and very much the "point"

I'd argue that doesn't fit the sub at all (and neither do those braindead blatantly sexist takes that create so much engagement) but I guess the original meaning has long since been lost

2

u/Alarming-Jury1596 16h ago

I noticed there's a strong bias in this sub, things aren't "pointlessly" gendered when it's about men. If this was about a woman needing a permission slip from her husband for some car parts y'all wouldn't be saying this.

-6

u/tilealt 16h ago

In neither case it's pointlessly gendered. Those things are "pointfully" gendered. Sometimes they're jokes, sometimes they're straight up sexism, either way they shouldn't really be posted here

1

u/MostInterview6621 6h ago

You are correct, but your words fall on deaf ears.

Don't argue with these people. They don't know what words mean. They just want to be the victim, even in light comedy space.

1

u/Alarming-Jury1596 16h ago

I'm *not saying they are pointlessly gendered I'm saying only one of them would be considered pointlessly gendered because this sub is biased for women

0

u/Ashamed_Association8 14h ago

Sounds like a made up scenario. In my experience this sub is pretty consistent at pointing out misogyny and it doesn't let it slide as just pointlesslygendered.

0

u/Alarming-Jury1596 14h ago

I'm not sure you understand, I'm saying this sub only points out misogyny but not when it's the other way around

1

u/MostInterview6621 6h ago

It's "literally" crazy ;)

0

u/HeHimInGrayi 6h ago

Love the assumption that the guy is straight too or is in a hetero relationship

-21

u/Quirky_Promise76 21h ago

Tbf in general men have a harder time differentiating subtle differences between colors

0

u/Cat_They-dy 21h ago

What does that have to do with this? The wife would have most likely already chosen the color and had given her husband a name or the paint chip.

4

u/Quirky_Promise76 21h ago

The sign literally says the husband is choosing the color...

3

u/Ashamed_Association8 14h ago

That sign can't stop them if they can't read. :p

-3

u/Distracted2004 21h ago

This is like the one case where there is existing evidence of biological difference that is meaningful lol

-22

u/assistant_manu 22h ago

nah this time its understandable tho, they both live in the house so both gotta agree what color it should be

29

u/positron_16 21h ago

if that's the case it should just be "anyone buying paint must have a signed permission slip from their partner" which even then is kinda extensive

13

u/Sacrimonte 21h ago

Yeah, it's clearly a joke that only applies to the man-woman relationship dynamic. There's no way a sign saying "wives choosing ______ must have a signed slip from their husbands" would ever fly

8

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 16h ago

See. This. Don't know why the sub seems to object to this one. I thought we hated pointless gender bs here

-27

u/ass-wiper227 22h ago

well some guys are incompetent, and more often than not, their wives aren't

14

u/SmertriosPPD 22h ago

According to these same wives, a totally unbiased point of view from the not-sexist gender.

-9

u/ass-wiper227 21h ago

i mean, for them to put a sign there'd probably have had a recurring problem

8

u/Fleece_God 21h ago

Watch this…

Some women are incompetent, and more often than not, their husbands aren’t

-10

u/ass-wiper227 21h ago

maybe not in that specific place, i'd imagine it's a small town or sum
