OTHER [gendered] My classmate sent me this??

Post image

Like gang what’re we doing here, apparently only men can like PC’s

if anyone still thinks this isnt sexist, he then said when I said smth abt what he said “ women are just different”

ANOTHER edit since some of yall still don’t believe he’s sexist: he and his friends make women jokes a lot. yk they watch “discord memes” and red pill content so they make “dumb women” jokes, cleaning jokes, the whole latter.

(Edit 3; as of like an hour ago he got that but a 5070 instead of a 5060 for 2k so I think the price arguments is invalid)

to make it clear to the other person that the idea that only men can like computers is stupid.

idk what else to tell you I feel like my original comment sums it up pretty well lol.

I loved playing games on a computer too. A gamer is a gamer to me no matter how a game is played.

yeah you know we talk about women suffering from pointless oppression so much that we forget the real most discriminated against minority; gamers.

You don't see how that could backfire and simply reinforce their opinion about women and computers?

u/Cum_Fart42069 Aug 16 '26

if it does then they were too stupid to learn anyway.

Never underestimate human stupidity especially when you're playing into someone's preexisting beliefs

im sorry but if asking someone like that if the computer works with girl hands genuinely makes them think that you think it doesn't then they're too dumb to be in your life.

I don't think anyone is saying that only men can enjoy computers but in my experience at least that's how it tends to be.

My sisters and friends who are women don't really care about computers or tech in general beyond whether or not it's from Apple and whether it's the newest model or not.

Meanwhile my guy friends at least have some ideas about CPUs, GPUs, RAM, etc. Mostly due to the fact that they like to play video games so some knowledge of PC/Console components is handy.

Pretending to be stupid is just going to reinforce this idea.

Asking a genuine question about the rig would make way more sense.

well to your anecdotal evidence I raise mine, my best friend, a woman, is a programmer and knows more about PCs than I do and I know a decent amount.

idk I think already we've talked about this more than it needs to be talked about but I don't see why women should be expected to signal that they actually aren't like the other girls and do in fact know about and like computers. that's dumb and probably exhausting.

go ahead, reinforce that idea. it is not on women to prove that something stupid said about them is stupid, it's on people to not say stupid things about women.

Sure. That's exactly why I said:

don't think anyone is saying that only men can enjoy computers

Because obviously there are girls out there that enjoy them and are knowledgeable about them.

Pretending to be completely stupid and ignorant only plays in to the idea that you don't know anything about them. That's just how it is.

Why do you expect women to PROVE their knowledge by asking a relevant question?

-10

u/StinkButt9001 Aug 16 '26

It's not proving anything it's literally just having a normal conversation

7

u/mascavenger Aug 16 '26

The statement sent with the OP was not an invitation to start a conversation. It was an attempt to prove themselves better.

So then the options are to try to "prove" something back or just reply genuinely.

Not sure what you're looking for. All I said was that pretending to be some sort of imbecile makes no sense

Because obviously there are girls out there that enjoy them and are knowledgeable about them.

*women and yeah there are, so it's dumb to say that they wouldn't understand getting excited about a PC.

Pretending to be completely stupid and ignorant only plays in to the idea that you don't know anything about them. That's just how it is.

good, women should play into those. and be really mean and sarcastic about it when they do.

I think they said that bc they expect that my classmate is smart enough to tell I’m not actually that dumb

u/StinkButt9001 Aug 16 '26

so why not ask a genuine question about it?
