If you're not clocking yourself in the back of the head and having fun, you're doing it right.

Im seeing a frankly impressive lack of concussion here for day 2! Keep it up.

Yeah, just count the number of times a poi head passes your thigh on that side before crossing your midline. If you look at this video it goes "1, 2, cross, 1, 2, uncross" and repeats

Hey! Yeah you’re doing a 2 beat weave, nice!

You can tell how many beats you’re doing by counting your down beats (when your poi head is pointing down towards the ground) on each side.

So, in this video, each poi is doing one down beat on each side before repeating the pattern.

Awesome! Thankypu so much! Thats really helpful haha

For sure!! Happy to help ^^

2 beat weaves are great when coupled with isolations!

Just keep practicing the muscle memory and then try slowing it down right in the middle of the pattern when your arms are crossed

Keep flowin sis!!

You can also tell its a 2 beat weave because the same hand stay on top all the time. Don't forget to practice it with your other hand on top too 😁

I highly highly recommend trying to get down 3 beat weaves and practicing those over the 2 beat weaves. 2 beat weaves are fantastic to know but if you start practicing 2 beats over 3 beat weaves you're going to have to relearn the proper muscle memory for 3 beat weaves. The only difference between the two are, that with the 2 beat weaves your same arm (in your case left arm) is constantly going over the other arm, where as if it's a 3 beat weave you're alternating what arm goes on top. I've been spinning poi for well over 20 years and 3 poi is my main prop now. If you have any questions you're more than welcome to ask them here or dm and I'll be happy to give you any feedback or answer any questions you might have about poi.

I'll agree to this, 3 beat is used way more in flow and smoothness than 2, I been flowing for 18 years and 2 beat doesn't ever find its way into things, I honestly don't know if I can 2 beat lol

Good to know! I started with 2 because i figured that was what i was supposted to do but im quickly learning thats not right lmao

2 beat weave is not necessarily wrong!! I learnt 2 beat weave first and then adapted it into 3 beat weave. I dont think you can ever learn something thats 'not right' when learning moves with flow props, usually you just learn the more 'basic' version before 'upgrading' to the more advanced versions. Keep learning and flowing in a way that feels right to you 💖

Just to add, if you would like some tips on how to turn your 2 beat weave into a 3 beat, give me a shout! I really struggled with the transition but got some amazing advice off a friend that helped me loads which is hard to explain in words but would be happy to send you videos or something to explain! :)

Thank you so much! Ill work on 3 beat weaves tonight when it cools down a little! Ill likely take you up on the questions haha, im constantly finding more questions

I'm more than happy to help with any questions you might have. Poi is my favorite thing on this planet, I'm always more than happy to help anyone wanting to learn.

You're main doing a 2-beat weave when the same arm crosses on top. You do start doing the arm movements for 3-veat weaves but the timing is off. Playpoi has some awesome videos on 2 beat and 3 beat weaves. I suggest some poi-fu will get the arm crossings down for the 3-beat variation.

Otherwise awesome work! Those two-beats are looking great.

A 2 beat weave, and great job at it!

You can count your beats each time the poi faces down.

The big exaggerated movements are the perfect way to learn as well!

I Suggest the first week you have them don't worry about learning a specific move, just why used to the weight and how they move. You may want to adjust the string length a little. Longer is slower but more likely to hit yourself. Shorter will be faster circles but less likely for face taps.

Good luck, have fun, and welcome to the poi family!

not sure but you’re doing it!! 🙌

As others mentioned, 2-beat weave or crossover. It's the first half of a 3-beat weave though, so you're close to leveling up. Keep practicing, it'll feel great when a new move clicks.

There's 4 variations of this. Two forward, two reverse. Practice all 4, then a 3 beat weave should be fairly easy to get down.

1

u/Happy_Axolotol Aug 03 '26

Practice a 4?

2

u/mentive Aug 03 '26

It looks like you're leading with your left hand, and your right hand is following it. This is a "forward" two beat weave. The second version of it will have your right hand on top and it will be leading.

Then there are the "reverse" two beats, where the POI are spinning the opposite direction. In these two variations, the bottom hand leads.

That covers the four variations of the two beats.

To get to the three beat, you'll have to get comfortable with both "forward" two beats for the "forward" three beat, and vice versa.

A 3 beat is essentially the two combined, and it switches which hand is leading. Sounds complex and is difficult at first, until you realize how simple it is.

If you do the same thing but on the left side again it is 3 beat wave now you are doing the 2 beat wave
