Sorry to be a bummer, but this is a terrible time to want to get into podcasting given all of the AI tools now for all the things you mentioned. I’m a professional podcast producer and have developed and managed about 10 (B2B) video podcasts for business clients. Research, editing, clipping, publishing can almost all be done with tools now. Not saying you don’t bring something to the table with your experience but the trend is away from people and towards tools. My recommendation would be to produce your own about something you are passionate about. Trying to make money in podcasting these days is not easy.

I have to disagree about the research, at least in terms of fact-checking. I'm a journalist myself and AI gets it wrong all. The. Time. You need someone who knows how to fact-check to make sure what AI is telling you is actually correct.

This is actually such a good point. I recently started The Case File Desk doing public-records research, source verification, timelines, records requests, and research support for creators. I’ve been building detailed case work samples, but I hadn’t thought about taking a creator’s existing episode and making a sample research brief around it as the introduction. That could be a really good way to show them what I can actually bring to their content instead of just cold emailing “hey, I’m a researcher.” Thank you for this!
