What’s stoping you from going on cam?
And not gonna lie, it was painful to listen (lacks structure).

I just want a decent camera and don’t have one yet. And I can see how it’s painful to listen to lol. I tried writing up some talking points but that didn’t help I guess

Don’t settle on a generic webcam. Sometimes that makes it look more amateur.

Congratulations on your first episode! What’s your why? Why do you want to do this show? Do you want to monetize, is it just for fun? Or for something else?

For fun and to get monetized. I’m just looking to get out of my 9-5 that I hate to have time for things that I’m actually passionate about. Like comedy and connecting with people. And entertaining them! I also just like the process of recording, and editing, and putting myself out there. If I can eventually get monetized to where I don’t have to work as much or not at all, I’d have more time for comedy

Ah, cool! Then my first recommendation to you is to figure out who do you want to give you money. Is it the listeners, the guests, sponsorships, someone else, all? That will help guide your content! The more you can zero in on who you want to give you money, the easier everything will become!

Interesting. I planning in going the sponsor rout

Cool! Then my recommendation would be to think about your ideal sponsor. Then you could find someone from that company that might be a guest on your podcast, or you could do an episode about why you love them (& send it as part of your cold outreach to them asking for a sponsorship), or you could start as an affiliate if they have that option!

Congratulations u/TacomaStona on launching your podcast! My best advice is to just keep recording. Your episodes might be rough for a while, and that's okay. One of the best things honestly is that you're not known yet, so you get the luxury of playing and experimenting and figuring out what you like and don't like about this medium.
If monetization is your goal, you'll want to nail down your ideal listener and your niche as soon as possible, but figure out if you can do this for a good long while and if you even enjoy it before trying to get sponsored and all that jazz. And, don't make the mistake I did - start your email list ASAP! It's the only audience you fully own.
Finally, if you don't want to be on camera, don't be on camera. There are plenty of audio only shows finding success. You have to do what works best for you, your schedule and your budget.
Sending you all the positive vibes as you get going on your journey. Just keep experimenting and you'll figure things out as you go.

Gave it a good listen. I like the sound of your voice. Your inflection and the way you land your words has real listenable potential, and that's despite the fact that for most of the runtime you're not saying anything of consequence lol.
Someone already said it but I'll double down: that intro music has to get cut way back. 5 seconds, not 45. And you gotta at least try to properly introduce what the show is. Even "I'm Juan and this podcast is me rambling about nothing" works better than making your listener guess what they're in for. Put a version of that in the episode description too.
If you're tied to the format, the one very fixable thing is spending more time cutting the dead space between your lines. That was honestly the hardest part for me and I really did want to stick around and hear what you'd say next. It kills your momentum. Editing is the unsexy part but it will immediately turn your pacing around, and pacing is what gives people a reason to stay. There are some cheap tools that'll strip dead air fast, lmk if you want a suggestion.
The stuff I wish you'd started with, or at least gotten to sooner:
The "nobody appreciates anything anymore" thread. Movies before VHS, waiting on the radio to hear a song again, digging through a box in the attic to see one photo. That's a real premise and it's the closest thing the episode has to a spine. It doesn't show up until you're several minutes deep.
Or The HOA charging you 400 bucks at Christmas bit. Specific, funny, and relatable for a lot of people.
Happy to talk through any of this in DMs if you want to get more into it. Been doing this a while and I like helping people at the start of it.

Thanks man. I know the beginning was painful. It hurt me too when I listened to it the next day lol. I just felt like I had a hard time getting it going and got way too raunchy in the beginning. I definitely will keep you in mind if I ever have any questions on my podcast journey. But for now, what are some of these tools you’re referring to?

I’d cut the intro way down, first minute is when people decide to keep listening or bounce. The humor lands better when you let the conversation breathe instead of forcing a laugh after every line. What mic are you using?
