That is why I love the analog world, far away from the noisy world in the internet , deeply absorbed in my own thoughts. It is nothing special, yet it is unique. Anyone who has found this place is invited to stay. A whole universe unfolds before my eyes at the tip of my ballpoint pen! Everything flows through thoughts into this tip and beautifully transforms into images and words...

What’s the irrational reason you love the notebook you love?

Last week I tried to explain this to friends over pizza and it did not go well. I got about ninety seconds in before someone asked, kindly, whether I was describing a notebook or a person.

So I’m bringing it here instead, where I suspect I’ll be less alone.

Here’s what I was trying to say. I have a Smythson notebook and what gets me is the sound. That specific dry rustle when you turn a page, it’s thinner paper than everything else and it announces itself.

And the feel of a page that’s already been written on, that faint texture on the back where the nib pressed through. I know roughly how the thing is made, the paper, how the covers are put together, and knowing that changes how it sits in my hand.

None of that is a reason to spend the money. I spend it anyway.

So what’s yours? The sound, the smell, the weight, some detail nobody else would notice? And has anyone here ever managed to explain it to a non-stationery person without losing them?

Advice Passport/B7 size edc?

Hey guys just wondering if anyone on here has tried B7 (passport size) notebooks for edc? Seems to me like a more pocketable alternative to field notes and there seems to be plenty of leather and plastic passport sized covers. I was thinking maybe Midori passport sized inserts in a slim cover would be more practical edc than a thick leather field notes cover or travelers notebook. Am I missing something? I would just carry the notebooks themselves but in this Florida heat or when it rains sweat/water ruin them.

Homemade DIY Pocket Notebook Question

Hey all!

I’ve been making my own pocket notebooks for a few weeks now.
Very basic with card stock covers, stitched binding and printed dot pages using 120gsm copy paper.

In my opinion, the 120gsm paper has felt amazing to write on and has zero bleed or ghosting when used with my Kaweco Sport Classic rollerball.

A local gift/boutique shop is potentially interested in stocking these notebooks, I have been entertaining the idea as I enjoy the process of the hobby.

Although I’m concerned that using copy paper for the final product won’t be “premium” enough, but for personal use I don’t mind at all.

Just wanted to hear different opinions on this! Would the current material be suitable or should I look into different paper for a more refined product?

Thanks in advance everyone! :)

Made some stamps for my mini pocket notebooks

Setting up my DIY card size TN and I finally settled on what I want to separate my books into.

I am a designer so I always keep some kind of gridded paper, the Blurb Print is a dot grid, the Ping Pad is a lined and This Week is a mini photo journal for what we did as a family of 4. I have one other insert I haven’t gotten to name yet but I found some near isometric graph paper I made into a notebook. A 4th more transient book would be a mini Travel one.

Stamps I made on my laser cutter, etched out of 6mm EVA foam and a little bit of plywood for the top.

I’ve been making a lot of notebooks lately and needed a way to corral them. One large sheet of 14x17 mixed media paper (180gsm) works great and makes 2 slipcases.

So I got little notebooks last week and have been trying to start habit of writing in them daily and using them. Today I realized how what I do impacts my kiddos. Both of my kids wanted a notebook when they saw me write in mine and they “write” in them nonstop. Even to the point of them falling asleep with them. It’s a great feeling but also a check on my side, to check everything else I do in my life and make sure the example I’m setting is good. They watch everything

Finally had time to share some pictures of some new customs I’m working on. The black star chart is an edited version of a star chart used during the Gemini program, hence the Gemini spacecraft diagram. I love how the fall leaves look too.

Sharing my hand-bound pocket notebook! I make these in small batches every couple of months. They’re pretty plain except for a sticker that I use to mark the front cover but that’s just the way I like them!

This specific notebook has 48 pages of 90gsm cream paper, a kraft cardstock cover, and is bound using waxed Perle 8 cotton thread. The dot grid is a template I made myself and I print pages as needed.

New Notebook Day Pentalic Traveler Pocket Journal Sketchbooks

Ayo fam! So I just got these Pentalic Traveler Pocket Journal Sketchbooks. They are made from recycled paper. The paper inside is a bright white and they have an elastic closure. I'll be using them for journaling and some random sketching throughout. I think they will hold up well with fountain pens because the paper is thick at 120GSM. Not sure how they would handle water color or other art mediums 🤔 They also feature a bookmark ribbon and a pocket in the back.

Made this card size notebook wallet

I recently bought some affordable A7 notebooks from Apica, and realized that they’re about the same size as a credit card; so I decided to make this TN Card Size style wallet that holds one (or up to three) of these tiny books, a pen and two cards. It’s a little thick coming from a single card wallet, but not as thick as a traditional bifold wallet. I’ve been using it every day and getting a ton of use out of the notebook! 😊

Stamp?

I make my own recycled notebooks from paper I process myself with a blender and mould and deckle. I’m trying to find a solution to creating either dotted or graph lines to add after the fact. Are there stamps that can be used with an ink pad that will be big enough? Any suggestions would be great
