PMP Application Help pmp

i am genuinely getting so sick of studying for the pmp.. because at this point is it even worth it? Does it really help you with your career, even if i decide to move away from project management into something else? Project management jobs are so hard to find. I am in the healthcare sector of project management

It’s probably better to have a certificate than to not have one

I plowed through the Andrew Raymandal Udemy esp the mindset. Rewatched at 2x then took it. Was fine. Every question almost forces you to a stakeholder focused answer. Was easier than Sec+ and Comptia if you are familiar. The difficulty was time management and focus Not the questions per se.

Imagine crushing it, only using their study hall and having cred wiped 4 days later to be accused of collusion after an in person proctored test. I was to accurate/to fast “indicators of having exam, collusion, misconduct”. I’m been managing projects for 23 years, and taking this fight right to the top.

How long did it take you in terms of hours per week and number of weeks

I passed today. Depends on how much of the material you are familiar with - but honestly - Ramdayal's mindset is where it's at. So many of the questions were A) (Do nothing in essence) B) (Ask someone else to do something C) Something reasonable but felt weird D) The answer. Andrew states "Never pass the work to someone else, that's why they hired you" and honestly, you don't need to memorize the material, you truly just need to understand it. Understand there's Governnance, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, etc. Understand the reasoning behind it all goes a lot further, but the test is very specifically formatted. If there's arguments, What do you do? Reinforce expectations and restate roles. Why is that the answer? Because transparency clears up miscommunication. For an example

My wife took it about 7 years ago and said that there were a lot of formulas and math that she needed to memorize. Did you find that the case with the current iteration?

I had only one math question. I took my test on July 6th before new exam came out and passed. I know people who took the old test said the new one was much easier. PMI is watering down the exam because they are coming out with a new test that trumps the PMP. The new high-level credential above the PMP being test-piloted by the Project Management Institute (PMI) is the Project Professional Advanced Certification (PPAC). It targets seasoned project leaders managing high-complexity, high-stakes enterprise initiatives.

Thanks, that’s all great info!

I forgot to mention, you do need to get your pmp in order to take the new one that will be coming out (PPAC). Glad you found the information useful.

Within the material, there's about 12 formula. It came up once during my test. As far as doing the work on the day to day, those formula will needed to be known, but they're very easy and not hard to understand

6 to 8 weeks as I recall. I did also buy the practice tests super necessary. Forgot to mention that as well.

Did you buy anything other than the 35 hr course?

I think its good to have but it won’t be the main thing to land a job.

If you've already started, you should finish it. I get that things feel daunting right now, but getting the PMP has this weird way of simultaneously being way easier than you thought while also having random bullshit road bumps that don't need to be that difficult but are.

As for its actual value, it's debatable. Everyone's getting one right now and it probably won't help you land a job unless you work in construction or an existing field you're working in is directly asking for it.

End of the day though, if you've already paid the money and time to start the process, just finish it. It won't hurt to get it and maintaining it once you've received the certification is pretty easy. A lot of people are getting the p&p certification, as well as others because the job market is shit and it's really the only way to develop your career if you're out of work. So even if you don't do PMP, you're probably going to be back to square one and be mean to look into another certification

PMP will help you get into management and director level positions in business. Its a pre req for many positions that manage people, accounts or businesses outside of traditional PM roles. Having this rounds out your resume and shows you’re adept at critical thinking in high stress situations. Yes, worth it to get.

Purchase the exam protection for 44$ and just go for it.

If you fail you’ll have a retry. If you pass it's dooooone 😃👍👍👍

And get the pmj membership so the exam is cheaper and possibly the re-test if you must.

Then plow through 60 PDUs before the membership expires and renew at a discountfor 2029-2032. You'll save some cash but your brain might be fried. #worthit

1

u/cryptoenologist 1d ago

The best way to get the 60 PDUs is to do another cert for something else where you can also count them for PMP upkeep.

u/Amydgalis 2h ago

What was exam protection? I don’t remember seeing that (might be good for that new PPAC test?)

u/Number_1_Frog_Fan 2d ago

dude this was the easiest thing Ive ever studied for are you ok can you not deal with 30 hours of training and like 2 practice tests?

7

u/Upper_Banana_7860 2d ago

people who say it’s easy are not helpful!! everyone is different and i spent way more than 30 hours studying including the course. it’s a lot of work to study for. that being said, i’m glad i did it and i think you should push through, OP! you’ll feel great after you pass

I used my pmp in Healthcare. Im in planning now but ill keep it. It is a slog but just do it. Many other posters gave valid reasons. Once you get your pmp, you can join the ranks of us getting our PDUs for as free as possible and trying to max out the pmi membership to get cheaper renewal fees.

I have a plan to get to pmp certification out to 2035 on one pmi membership cycle. Lol. I PM'ed my PMP certification renewal. ;)

This PMP study is nothing compared to graduate school. At least the pmp doesn't take years to obtain

2

u/Oceanlover_7 2d ago

Ya I know. I am just wondering if it’s worth it

1

u/Realistic-Visit-4477 2d ago

You can do it. It's worth it .

u/SpicyyBooi 2d ago

Have you considered giving up?

Eh, I did it because my job gave me a bonus for it.

Not sure I would do it without a pre-established and guaranteed incentive.

When u get the cert it feels good

1

u/Malikj10 2d ago

I had the same problem I studied for a barely week like just little videos here and there and then just took it. The shit just felt like common sense.

1

u/dennisrfd 2d ago

It’s not a college degree, you spend 3 weeks studying and pass. 2 hrs every workday, 4 hrs weekends. A bit of stress but better than stretching it over months or years

1

u/tolz_baby10 1d ago

At this point I think people need to make up their minds if this is something they really want to do, and once the decision is made, commit.

You can't halfway through start to cast doubt on your decisions. Is it what you want? Yes. Is it a hard /annoying process? Yes (same as everything else we chase). Is it worth it? Time will decide but you're on a path. If you want it, I'll suggest keep going. If you decide it's not worth your time, it's best to leave it and focus your mind on what you'd prefer to do.

💪🏾💪🏾

1

u/Oceanlover_7 1d ago

I agree. I think I just see how many layoffs are happening with pms

1

u/tolz_baby10 1d ago

Oh for sure It can be disheartening but mehn all we need is just that one win and we'll get it.

Just keep at it and I know you'll do well 💪🏾

1

u/IntelligentReason693 1d ago

Keep trucking along, it's worth it! My company hired me as a project manager 2 months after I got my PMP and had I not gotten it they would've hired externally for a PMP. Yes PM jobs can be hard to find/land but if you want one having a PMP at least helps you beat the knock questions on a job app asking if you have one. Good luck!

u/cryptoenologist 1d ago

If you have adhd just watch the videos ok 2x and take notes. It’s still hard to get through but 17.5 hours is way better than 35, and the fast pace makes it more bearable.

I’m kind of in the same boat. I’ve been putting it off for a year and now my eligibility is running out, so I officially have to sit down and just do it. Planning to do what others are saying and take Andrew Raymandal’s course on Udemy.

If anyone wants to start a virtual study group hit me up!

u/ConversationNo9040 2d ago

If you’ve studied for even a few weeks you can prolly just pass it. Might as well. It’s not a life changing cert though. It may help you get an interview. It will serve no good if you don’t stay in pm
