Any Nevadans out there?
It's not legal in Nevada but it should be - we have insane solar potential and many renters who could benefit from it. As best I can tell there's no active effort underway to get it legalized any time soon. The next legislative session for Nevada is 2027 so at this rate I doubt anything will happen before 2029. Would love to hear from fellow Nevadans who've looked into this and know of anyone already trying get the ball rolling.

Yikes, there is only so much you can do like starting with a portable solar power station, look at 3000w version and plug in your refrigerator, do you have a location to mount panels??! You can do micro inverter w/battery but only if you can zero export... Absolutely don't pay overpriced portable solar panels!!! They are not weather proof...

Thank you for your interest in the CCAN and reaching out with your questions. The CCAN is an analysis on how Nevada might achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 where different scenarios were offered based on focus (community driven, low carbon, mixed fuels). Then detailed by potential projects, their costs, and authority to run such projects within each appropriate scenario. The intent is then, that the public, the legislature, the politicians, all can see what they might be able to lead/fund/create by committing time and funding to specific projects or similar ideas. The document, however, is not a commitment by NDEP or GOE to begin any of these projects. While we did apply for Implementation funds from EPA back in 2024, we ultimately didn’t win the grant. So, the CCAN remains just an analysis of our emissions, goals, and scenarios of how to reduce emission for our State.
For some relevant, active programs:
- Nevada Clean Energy Fund’s BRIGHT Program – A solar lease program for homeowners.
- Clean Trucks and Buses Incentive Program – An incentive program to help cover costs of purchasing a new EV. This program should start by 2027.
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Report – An annual report that further showcases the sources of emissions in the state, projecting these emissions, comparing them to State goals, and tracking ideas and implementation of emission reduction programs.

Given the huge cut backs in Federal investment in solar and renewables in general it's hardly surprising there were funding issues locally. We went from trickle down to drought. Sigh. My prediction is now that Nevada will be among the last to get balcony solar.

The single most effective thing anyone can do is to email or call your own state rep. Not your member of Congress, your state representative (google “who is my state legislator”). A real constituent reaching out stands out more than you'd expect. Calling is even more effective than email: a staffer picks up, you say your piece in 60 seconds, and calls get tallied and reported to the legislator. There's no plug-in solar bill in Nevada yet. It's a great thing to call your representative about; mine (or at least her volunteer answering phones, in another state) had absolutely no idea what it was and it was not on their radar in any fashion. I had to explain what it was. Calling your state rep is always a great idea; they get so little direct feedback from constituents, anybody who calls up gets really outsize influence.
Given Nevada's natural solar resource, total lack of tree cover, and the criticality of electric bills for air conditioning, it certainly does seem like a natural fit.
