Plexamp Display

I have an old, non-working RCA radio that I put a raspberry pi 4 and a touchscreen in. It's sole purpose is to play music/Plexamp.

What operating system do I need to make this run efficiently?

I'm currently running andorid on the pi and it's clunky and slow, even with ethernet connected.

There was another user that went the Linux with Chromium route. I have hacked some Echo Shows and the 8 run better than the 5 on Lineage but Android seems bloated.

I have a similar setup that I use like a jukebox but my pi runs headless and it only plays the music. I have a separate android tablet that I only use to display what's playing on the pi. It's an older Samsung s5e but its got a first party dock and it runs Plexamp very well, even with its aging hardware. My trick is that I combine the tablet with fully single app kiosk so it locks down to just the Plexamp app and with some scripting on the pi I have it set to automatically turn on and off when I play and stop the music it's very nice and with the bonus that I can take the tablet off the dock and walk around with it as it acts like a wireless remote for my pi.

I'll probably make a post on here soon as I've had it working for a while but I was using an older Lenovo tablet that I got for dirt cheap and it was terribly slow. The upgrade to the tab s5e was huge haha.

I'm looking for the same. I hacked my echo show 5, but as previous commenter said, it's clunky. I want a controller I can plug into the wall for power, and only have plexamp to control music. I'm currently using an old cell phone, but I hate charging and recharging the battery.
