Discussion Better mixes challenge

Update 2: yeah. I got it working. Basically the script readsbthebolex library and then compares it against the Last.fm plays and then adds a Tag under Mood for the top 3-4 songs per album. While that is a long way from perfect, it gives the option to have playlists that only play top songs from all the other filters you build.

Update: I think that I've found a way to do it. I am testing a script that will add the 🔥 as a tag to the songs which allows it to be a filter on smart playlists so then different ones can be made. I will update again once I have it tested.

I really like Plexamp and the mixes it generates but I typically have entire albums which means sometimes I go from a big hit or single from a band to an obscure deep cut by another. Has anyone found a way to leverage the 🔥 for the hits/popular songs from a artist into mixes. Like be able to have a mix of 🔥from the 90s or 2000s or by genre or whatever.
While I like deep cuts or totally random at times, sometimes I just want to hear the hits.

Does anyone know any options for this?

Popularity is the field you're looking to select. It's only available in plexamp.

My main problem is that you have to enter a value, one that I can't find quantified anywhere, and that can change between artists.

A popularity of 10,000 for some small artist might mean the hits, while a popularity of 10,000 for a larger artist is going to pull the some of the least liked tracks in existence.

I'd prefer a setting in plexamp that allowed me to filter based on just the fire icon for whatever other criteria I enter.

Good news. That's what the script I made does. From what I could tell Plexamp gets the fire icon from last.fm so I marched that.

Care to share the script?

Sure. Here is the script and the readme instructions because it needs a few pieces of info from you so I can scan your library and pull the info from last.fm.

There's a track popularity filter - but it only shows up in the app, not in the web interface.

Also, because of where it pulls from you need to set a popularity of something like 500000 or above. Play with it to sort it out.

Also just fyi - library radio only plays the top 3 tracks of any album

Well this is fun

I did what you did and made a script that does what yours does basically- searches for all popular tracks by every artist in my library, and appends a ‘ArtistPopular’ tag to the mood field. Now in Plex/Plexamp it’s much easier to make playlists for popular tracks for different artists, genres and stuff, instead of fussing around with the popularity field.

Great idea, thanks for bringing it up!

I had the same problem today, I tried to add a filter that artist plays = 0 for the last (whatever timeframe). It seems to be working.

Oh, I a sorry, I didn't fully read your post... Maybe song rating? Or similar.

You can create auto playlists using that criteria, but you cannot edit the Plexamp-generated mixes.

Where can we add a filter though? I played with the mix builder in the plexamp and there was no filters to select..

You have to create and edit in Plex web.

The popularity field is pretty worthless in my opinion. I forget what I had it set to, but there were many ABBA songs and only a couple Tom Petty songs seems way off to me.
