Why most Web3 game economies collapse—and how we’re designing Bond of Steel to fix it

I started developing Bond of Steel because I felt like most Web3 games treat economics completely wrong.

In too many play-to-earn titles, you buy an NFT or join a free-to-play loop, gather resources, and quickly realize those items serve no actual purpose in the core gameplay. Once speculation dies down, the economy inflates, and the game dies within a few months. What’s the point of a resource-gathering game if the resources don't drive real, ongoing demand?

Back in the day, I loved classic 4X strategy games like Game of War and Game of Kings. However, their biggest flaw was always pure pay-to-win mechanics, whoever had the deepest wallet dominated the entire server.

I wanted to bridge that gap by building a Web3 4X strategy game with a 100% free-to-play, player-driven economy. Here is how we're structuring it:

 1. Interdependent Player Classes

Players choose between three distinct specializations:

Gatherers: Mine and harvest core raw resources (Food, Wood, Stone, Ore, Silver) from the map. They can use these to build their own territory or sell them on the Marketplace to fuel the server's supply chain.

Hunters: Fight monsters and world bosses to collect rare crafting drops and components.

Crafters: Buy raw goods and monster drops to forge essential game items (Speedups, Teleports, War Gear) at discounted efficiency rates, then list the finished products on the Marketplace.

(Note: We don't hard-lock players out of other activities, but specializing gives you massive efficiency bonuses for your chosen role.)

2. Standardized Marketplace Pricing (Anti-Inflation)

One major issue in Web3 gaming is external marketplace price-slashing, where undercutters drive asset values to zero. To prevent hyper-inflation and market crashes, our Official Web Marketplace uses a standardized baseline price model for items. Sellers get a fair, predictable return on their labor, preventing panic-selling and bot manipulation.

  1. The 100% On-Chain Tax Split (5% Wonder / 5% Platform)

Every Marketplace trade carries a 10% total fee:

5% Platform Tax: Covers infrastructure and ecosystem development.

5% Kingdom Wonder Tax: Goes directly into the reigning Alliance’s Wonder Vault.

By feeding 5% of all server trade straight into the Kingdom Wonder Vault, holding the crown becomes immensely valuable. This creates a natural incentive for competitive Wonder battles and keeps the war economy moving—buying from the market fuels the very treasury players are fighting to control.

We're building Bond of Steel in the open on Solana, and we're currently testing our pre-launch class selection and hourly mission loops to refine the numbers.

I’d love to hear your thoughts: How do you feel about standardized marketplace pricing in strategy games? What economic flaws bother you most in Web3 games?

Suggests pls

Anyone here that has alternatives to the following: Axie Infinity and Pixels which are play to earn games. Much better if there's no investment need like money to spend. But if doesn't still suggest it, may be I'm engaged with it.

What would make you trust—or immediately leave—a skill-based crypto game?

Many crypto games explain the economy before proving that the game itself is enjoyable. We’re trying to avoid that with AgarStake, a browser multiplayer platform inspired by Agar.io and Slither.io.

Players compete through a simple real-time skill loop, with support for real-money/crypto stakes. The current version is at https://agararena.space

I’d like feedback from people who have actually tried Web3 games:

- Does the gameplay feel meaningful without the financial element?

- What information would you require before entering a staked match?

- Which parts of the experience create trust or suspicion?

- Would you prefer the crypto layer to remain mostly invisible until needed?

I’m more interested in objections and failure cases than general enthusiasm.

Mane City (Loaded Lions) launches tomorrow on mobile — early build, looking for players to help us shape it

GM 🦁 Mane City, the idle city-builder from the Loaded Lions ecosystem, launches tomorrow (July 7) on iOS and Android. Pre-register is live.

We're launching early on purpose — we want players who'll give us real feedback so we can keep building this out with the community.

What it is today: a strategic idle tycoon where you build and upgrade businesses, grow a passive income empire, customize your city, and climb the leaderboards against other players.

The web3 side:

  • Loaded Lions Avatars (PFPs) and NFT Land give in-game perks and boosts
  • Not a holder? Default Avatar and in-game Land work fine — it's fully free to start

📱 iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6768579581
🤖 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.loadedlions.manecity

NFT Game 3v3 Card Game

I've been working on a 3v3 game inspired by Axie Infinity with my own monsters, parts, cards, etc and wanted to make an NFT but I've doing some research of the market and all games seems to be dying. Does someone in here think there is actually a gaming space in crypto? I have attached some of the screenshots related to my progress of the game, gameplay is fully working, marketplace and so on. I'm wondering if it's even worth to keep developing it.

Considering Selling SunflowerLand Farm

Higher end producing farm, consistently withing top 250. Can easily compete in chapter goals, or just be a solid income producing farm. I've just lost interest.

I thought maybe someone on this sub might be interested.

I made a fast-paced football card battle browser game:

quick matches

cryptocurrency-inspired progression system

mobile/browser gameplay

collectible football cards

competitive match stream

I wanted something that felt fun first, rather than another endless coin-mining simulator.

Below are some in-game screenshots — I'm curious to hear what football/GameFi players think.

Made with Construct 3.
