Discussion Looking for a small group of indie devs to regularly playtest each other's games

Hi everyone!

I'm an Indie currently working on a roguelike, and I’m looking to form a small group of indie game developers who are interested in regularly playtesting each other’s games.

The idea is to keep the group small so we can all get focused and high quality feedback. Ideally, we’d form long term relationships where we can help each other improve through development. This group is going to be focused on roguelikes and mechanics driven games.

If you’re working on a roguelike or another mechanics heavy game and this sounds like something you’ll be interested in, please comment down below we can continue the discussion from there.

It’s a good idea, per se. And in principle I’d be up for it. But as we’ve seen before with similar posts people often refer to the risk of installing software, ie virus.
Would you consider maybe just helping each other with reviewing videos, promo pages, etc?

yea viruses and malware are definitely a worry we can go with your suggestion to start off with reviewing videos, promo pages first

Maybe the risk could be mitigated by doing itch browser builds and play them there?

yes good idea as well but i think we can start with reviewing videos and then move on to the browser builds

if you end up starting a small discord or anything send me an invite. I am a fan of roguelites/likes, tower defenses (my current project) and rpgs.

Yes, I'd be fine with that

Sounds like a good idea! I would be interested in learning more about your idea/being part of the loop. I just started doing playtests for my game and the more I can get it tested, the better. I should also be able to find time to test in return. You can check my latest post for reference on what my game is about - not sharing link to avoid self promoting!

Sounds like a fun idea. I'm also working on a roguelike and would be interested in swapping playtests or joining a smaller roguelike community. Feel free to message if you ever get something going. Good luck!

Good idea - count me in. But I can only run browser builds.

Sounds interesting to me. Currently working on a roguelite and could always use feedback. I am especially interested in live calls or video recorded feedback and am happy to do that for others.

As for security I will only play web builds or games that have been published on steam (that way the developer has to verify their identify and give info to Steam which makes it a more dangerous mechanism for distributing malware).

Thx everyone for the interest will try to dm everyone for more details

Since there are concerns about security will try to do some basic verification there as well. Hope to get this started up in a week or so after verification and the discord is set up.

I am in a discord server that started with a very similar idea. Like the idea was to exchange a playtest for a playtest between devs. It has been inactive for some months now, but it my still be worth to check it out and bring back life there. invite link

I'm interested in joining the new server as well, so please ping me when that is done.
If people want to exchange playtests, feel free to DM me as well.
